Baylor women’s basketball player Melissa Jones has not regained vision in her right eye after a hard fall in Sunday’s game against Oklahoma. Coach Kim Mulkey updated media during an emotional news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Jones is the senior leader of a Baylor team that held the nation’s No. 1 ranking for several weeks.

“As a coach, you expect injuries,” the distraught Mulkey said. “You expect career-ending injuries. You expect knees, you expect ankles, you expect fractures. This just doesn’t fit.”

Jones is receiving steroid treatments to reduce the swelling in the optic nerve. She will be discharged from the hospital in time to attend tomorrow’s final regular-season game against Missouri, where she will be honored during Senior Night.
