Temple wins Division I It's On Us video contest

Video to raise awareness of sexual assault prevention efforts will debut at Final Fours

Temple University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has been named the winner of this year’s NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee It’s On Us video contest, which raises awareness surrounding campus sexual assaults and preventive measures. Temple’s winning video will debut this weekend before the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four semifinal games on arena big screens in Houston and Indianapolis, respectively.

The Division I SAAC invited its campus SAACs across the country to create videos promoting awareness and prevention of sexual assaults on campus in support of the It’s On Us campaign. The NCAA partnered with the White House last year to bring more attention to what is occurring in college and university campus communities.

In addition to having its video shown April 2 at NRG Stadium and April 3 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Temple’s SAAC will receive $5,000 to be used for additional sexual assault prevention efforts on campus.  The video also will appear on the Division I SAAC Twitter page (@Div1SAAC) and on other NCAA platforms. The SAAC video contest precedes two events in April – Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Student-Athlete Day, which is recognized April 6 but also is celebrated throughout the month of April, highlighting student-athlete activities and achievements.

“We want to extend our congratulations to Temple University for winning this year’s It’s On Us national video contest, which was hosted by the NCAA in its partnership with the White House,” said Cody McDavis, a student-athlete at the University of Northern Colorado and chair of the Division I SAAC video contest. “We were overwhelmed by SAAC’s participation and interest in generating awareness around this topic, and that is something we are very excited about. All of the submissions were excellent! We are looking forward to next year and another opportunity for SAAC to be the leading voice of awareness and change on college campuses across the nation.”

SAAC is the voice and presence of the student-athlete in the NCAA governance structure, which can include providing viewpoints on potential NCAA legislation, maintaining seats on committees within the NCAA governance structure and participating in community partnering. The mission of the national Divisions I, II and III SAACs is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. SAACs represent Divisions I, II and III at the campus level in college and university athletics departments and are also active at the athletics conference level.

The NCAA honored The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s SAAC in last year’s inaugural It’s On Us SAAC video campaign, with the U.S. Military Academy’s SAAC earning honorable mention.
