Directors of Athletics -- Indiana University of Pennsylvania has appointed Steve Roach, the school’s associate athletic director, to serve as the interim athletic director for the university upon Frank Condino's retirement on Jan. 9, 2015. Roach, who is in his second full year as the associate director, is a 2001 alumnus of IUP. He came to IUP in February 2013 after spending more than five years in the same capacity at Millersville University of Pennsylvania … Drury University has selected Mark Fisher to become its next director of athletics. Fisher will begin his duties at Drury on July 1, 2015. Fisher is currently the director of athletics for Springfield Public Schools, where he has been in that position since 2003. Fisher's 12-year career with SPS includes success both on and off the field. In addition to overseeing all athletic activities for Missouri's largest public school district, he also spearheaded a $3.5 million campaign for stadium improvements and implemented systems to continually evaluate the progress of student athletes and coaches … Joe Thompson, Luther College's director of intercollegiate athletics and associate professor in health and physical education, has announced he will retire at the end of the 2014-15 academic year after a 20-year career at the college. Thompson was named director of intercollegiate athletics at Luther in June of 1995. He came to Luther following a successful 18-year coaching career that included stints as head track and field coach at University of St. Thomas, 1987-95, and Wisconsin-La Crosse, 1983-87 … Fresno State has hired Jim Bartko, the executive senior associate athletic director for development at the University of Oregon, to be its next athletics director. Bartko helped generate more than $150 million for capital improvements and facilities enhancements during an initial 17-year run at Oregon. After a brief stop at  California in 2006, he returned to Oregon and led a campaign to build the Matthew Knight Arena … Mario Moccia has been appointed New Mexico State University’s new director of athletics. Moccia, a New Mexico State graduate, has served as director of athletics at Southern Illinois University since 2006. Moccia graduated from New Mexico State in 1989. He was captain of the Aggie baseball team and went on to play in the Detroit Tigers minor league system.

Deputy Athletic Directors -- Jamie Boggs was named deputy director of athletics at Grand Canyon University. She most recently was executive senior associate athletic director/chief operating officer at Georgia State University, where she has worked since 2011. Before that she was senior administrator/assistant athletic director for compliance for three years at Duke University, where she began her career in college administration in 2003 as compliance coordinator and moved up to director of compliance in 2005.

Associate Athletics Directors -- High Point University has named Chris Wood as the department's senior associate athletic director for internal/external operations. In that role, Wood will oversee corporate sponsorships while working closely with the marketing and development departments. He also will serve as the sport administrator for the baseball and cross country/track and field programs.

Assistant Athletics Directors -- Eric Zedalis has been promoted to assistant director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia. While Zedalis will continue directing all UDC athletics sports information efforts, in his new role he will manage the department's branding and communication strategies and coordinate marketing and promotions as well. He will also be heavily involved with both external and internal operations functions … Matt Blymier was named assistant director of athletics/sports information director at Penn College. Blymier spent the past two years at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine, as the assistant director of athletics/sports information director where he was responsible for the Mariners' 11 Division III programs. During his time at Maine Maritime, Blymier upgraded the department's live web streaming, developed the department's first identity guide, had a new secondary created and launched an athletics online store.

Fund Directors -- Eastern Michigan University named Becky Heckart as its Eagles Pride Fund Director. In her role as the Eagles Pride Fund Director she will lead efforts in the development of an annual giving program to support all EMU student-athletes and directly assist head coaches in sport specific fundraising efforts. Heckart will also play a lead role in athletics events and donor stewardship.

Coaches

Men’s basketball -- San Diego State basketball coach Steve Fisher has signed an addendum to his current contract that will keep the two-time national coach of the year under contract as the school's head coach through the 2017-18 season. Fisher, who is in his 16th year at the helm of the Aztecs program, has guided San Diego State to 11 postseason appearances, including seven NCAA tournament berths, and a Mountain West-record eight conference titles. Additionally, the Aztecs have advanced to the postseason and won at least 20 games nine straight years … Colorado State has exercised its option to extend the contract of Rams men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy through the 2018-19 season. Since Eustachy's hire on April 12, 2012, the Colorado State men's basketball team has posted a 42-25 record (.627) record in his first two seasons. The Rams' 42 victories during that time rank as the third-best, two-season total in the 111-year history of the program.

Football -- Prairie View A&M University announced that the contract of head football coach Heishma Northern will not be renewed. The decision is effective immediately. Northern completed his fourth season as head coach of the Panthers.  The 2014 team finished with a record of 5-5. His four-year record was 19-25. Northern served as the 31st head football coach in Prairie View A&M history. Before accepting the position of head coach in 2011, Northern spent six seasons as the team's defensive coordinator … St. Norbert College head football coach Steve Opgenorth has resigned his position. Defensive coordinator Dan McCarty was promoted to head coach, effective immediately. Opgenorth went 6-4 in his one season with the Green Knights. McCarty just finished his first season as the Green Knights' defensive coordinator. McCarty's collegiate experience includes coaching at Wisconsin-Stout from 2007-2010, where he coached offensive line and defensive line, and was the Blue Devils' defensive coordinator in 2010 … Northwestern Oklahoma State University hired Matt Walter as head football coach. Walter, an alumnus of the university, takes over the position after spending the last six years on the staff at Emporia State University, the last four as offensive coordinator … Norfolk State University head football coach Pete Adrian announced his retirement after 10 seasons at the helm of the program. Adrian steps down after leading the Spartans to 54 wins during his tenure (54-60), making him the second-winningest coach in school history. The highlight of Adrian's on-field successes at NSU came in 2011, when the Spartans won their first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference football championship and competed in the Division I FCS playoffs for the first time. Their 9-3 record that year ranks as the second-best season in school history, trailing only a 10-2 mark in 1984 … Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator Jason Houghtaling, who has spent seven seasons on Wagner’s sidelines, was named the program’s 11th head football coach. Wagner was part of the staff that won Northeast Conference titles in 2012 and 2014 .

Men’s Lacrosse -- The University of Alabama-Huntsville hired Connor McGowan to be the department's inaugural men's lacrosse head coach. McGowan will lead the Chargers newest program into play that starts in the spring of 2016, following his most recent stint as assistant men's lacrosse coach at Birmingham-Southern. Prior to his time at Birmingham-Southern, McGowan assisted the Transylvania University men's lacrosse team and was the first assistant coach in the program's history.

Women’s Lacrosse -- The University of Alabama-Huntsville Gail Wallach to be the school’s first ever women’s lacrosse coach. Wallach most recently served as the head coach at Emmanuel College in Franklin Spring, Georgia, and she will lead a program that starts play in the spring of 2016.

Men’s Soccer -- Georgia soccer coach Steve Holeman will not return for the 2015 season. In his five seasons at Georgia, the Bulldogs maintained an overall record of 53-39-11 with two trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2014, the Bulldogs finished 10-8-2, reaching the SEC Tournament quarterfinals before falling 2-1 to Central Florida in the NCAA first round … UNC Asheville announced that men’s soccer coach Matt Kern will not return for next season. Kern has been the Bulldogs head coach for the past five years. Asheville has posted a 19-63-8 record during Kern’s tenure. In Big South Conference matches, the Bulldogs have gone 10-32-4 … Nebraska Wesleyan University announced today the hiring of Tudor Flintham as the new soccer coach for the Prairie Wolves.  He will serve as the head coach of both the men’s and women’s soccer programs. Tudor Flintham comes to Nebraska Wesleyan from Minnesota where he has served as an assistant soccer coach at Saint John’s University and College of Saint Benedict. 

Women’s Soccer -- New Mexico will not retain women’s soccer coach Kit Vela for the 2015 season. Vela compiled a 122-104-45 record during her 14 seasons with the Lobos. She guided New Mexico to a 10-6-2 record in 2014, finishing third during the Mountain West Conference regular season. The team advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament before bowing out to No. 2 seed Wyoming 2-1 … Matt Hislet will not return as the University of Mount Olive head women’s soccer coach.

Women’s volleyball -- Weber State women’s volleyball head coach Tom Peterson has announced he will resign as coach of the Wildcats, effective immediately. Peterson was hired in January 2011 as the ninth head coach in Weber State history. He has more than three decades of collegiate coaching experience in men’s and women’s volleyball, including capturing two NCAA national championships as the head men’s volleyball coach at Penn State (1994) and Brigham Young (2004) … North Park hired Natalie Dietz s its new head women's volleyball coach. Dietz takes over the North Park program after serving as the graduate assistant for one year where she helped lead the Vikings to a 9-24 overall record, which included a six-match winning streak, the longest such streak by the Vikings in the last seven seasons.

Wrestling -- Adrian hired Chris Williams as the head wrestling coach. Williams will guide the men's and women's programs at Adrian, which has not fielded a wrestling program since 1984. Williams made his most recent stop at Michigan State as the assistant coach of the men's wrestling team from 2005-2013. Williams led the fundraising efforts for the program while also organizing the recruiting efforts of future student-athletes.

NCAA

Coordinator of officials -- Don Umland has been named the new NCAA Division III baseball coordinator of umpires. Umland, who is from Bettendorf, Iowa, replaces current NCAA Division I National Coordinator of Umpires George Drouches, who served in the Division III position since 2005. Umland began his duties on November 17, and will work with Drouches and the Division III Baseball Committee as part of the transition process … Mark Baltz has been named the new NCAA Division III football supervisor of officials. Baltz of Zionsville, Indiana, is the first individual to serve in this position. He will work extensively with the Division III Football Committee and NCAA staff.

Deaths – Former NCAA national office staffer Jack Copeland, 58, of Shawnee died Nov. 15, in Corn, Oklahoma, after a sudden illness. He was a notable writer and editor who earned respect from his coworkers at the NCAA and the University of Oklahoma. Copeland joined the NCAA staff as a publications editor in 1986. Jack moved up the chain, eventually becoming managing editor of The NCAA News. The NCAA’s decision to relocate from Overland Park, Kansas, to Indianapolis in 1999 was difficult for Jack, and he chose to leave the Association before the move. He was excited about a new job at an Overland Park record store in which he would serve as a sort of music counselor for customers, but it didn’t work out as he hoped, and in 2003 he rejoined the NCAA in Indianapolis. He remained there full-time until 2010 and on a contract basis thereafter … The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee mourns the passing of former men's basketball coach Bob Gottlieb. The head coach of the UWM program from 1975-80, Gottlieb, who passed away Nov. 23, at the age of 74, compiled a 62-70 (.470) record during his Milwaukee tenure.

Directors of Athletics -- John Leister, a member of the Alma College athletics staff for 20 years, has announced his resignation as director of athletics. Leister came to Alma in 1993 as an assistant football and assistant baseball coach, eventually assuming the head baseball coaching position in 1997. As baseball coach, he led the Scots to the 1999 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association title. As athletic director, he oversaw significant facility improvements, including renovations to the Hogan Center, Scots Park and Bahlke Field, and the expansion of the athletics program from 18 to 23 varsity teams… Lane College has announced the resignation of the school's interim athletic director Penny Minter on November 10, effective immediately. Lane President Logan Hampton accepted the resignation and appointed Roger Ogden, Lane’s sports information director and head softball coach, as the athletic director on an interim basis. Ogden is a seven-year employee of the college and has served in his former capacities since 2008. He will retain the sports information director and head softball coach responsibilities during the interim period, the release states…Willamette University Director of Athletics David Rigsby has resigned and accepted a position as Willamette University’s associate vice president for advancement. Rigsby, who graduated from Willamette in 2000, was in his fourth year as the director of athletics. He previously served Willamette in a variety of positions, including assistant dean, interim director of career services, associate dean of campus life and interim co-dean of campus life… Loyola University Chicago has announced the hiring of Steve Watson as the school's director of intercollegiate athletics. Watson comes to Loyola after seven years as the director of athletics at St. Bonaventure University. Watson has 16 years of experience in intercollegiate administration under his belt…Abilene Christian University introduces Lee De León as the new director of athletics following the retirement of Jared Mosley. Prior to this new role at Abilene Christian, De León was the associate director of athletics for development and executive director of the Lobo Club at the University of New Mexico. While there, he was in charge of UNM's development office for athletics – the Lobo Club – which raises funds for all Lobo teams, programs and student-athletes… With over 35 years of intercollegiate administrative and coaching experience including 11 years as the senior associate director of athletics at Cal State Fulleton, Cal State Dominguez Hills has named Maryalyce Jeremiah its interim director of athletics. As a member of four Halls of Fame, the most recent being The State of Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum, her teams have won a national championship and have appeared in the NCAA Tournament every place she has coached including Cedarville University, University of Dayton, Indiana University, and Cal State Fullerton.

Associate Athletic Directors -- Padraic McMeel has been named Oakland University senior associate athletic director for external affairs.  McMeel has spent the last three-plus years at Kennesaw State as the associate athletic director for external operations. At Kennesaw State, he was responsible for overseeing all external relations, including oversight of development, athletic communications, marketing and promotions, corporate sales, ticket sales and operations, creative services and video operations…University of Tennessee Chattanooga announced Rob Robinson as the new associate athletics director for business affairs. Robinson served as the Mocs’ assistant athletics director of compliance since August of 2013. He is transitioning into his role as administrator of the athletics department’s budget, contracts and business operations…Nona Richardson, an accomplished athletics administrator and former Division I coach and student-athlete, has accepted a position as a senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at the University of Utah. Richardson will oversee all student-athlete support services at Utah, including academics, sports medicine, nutrition, the wellness team and the life skills program. She will also supervise several sports and will serve as Utah's gender equity and diversity coordinator and a representative on Pac-12 Conference Counsel…UMass Lowell announced the addition of Sandra Niedergall as associate athletic director for compliance. The Saginaw Valley State University graduate comes to UMass Lowell after spending the previous four years at Old Dominion University as the senior associate athletic director of compliance and student-athlete welfare. While at Old Dominion, she was the 2012 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships tournament director.

Assistant Athletic Directors- William "Drew" Scales III has been named assistant athletic director for student-athlete support services at UNC Wilmington. Scales spent the last seven years as assistant athletic director and director of student athletic academic services at the University of Toledo. He served as a diversity coordinator for Toledo’s Office of Equity and Diversity, and also served on the President's Council for Diversity as well as the Presidential Scholarship Committee for Toledo. 

Compliance -- University of Tennessee Chattanooga introduced Kenneth Jones as director of compliance. Jones comes to Chattanooga after spending the last five years at the University of North Carolina Wilmington where he was the Seahawks’ compliance coordinator.  He oversees all aspects of compliance to NCAA, Southern Conference and university rules for the athletics department.

Learning Specialists -- Michael Rutledge has joined the Florida State Student-Athlete Academic Services program as a learning specialist. Rutledge, a native of Houston Texas, will graduate with his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2014. His doctoral thesis focused on African American student- athletes and motivational factors that lead to graduate school. Rutledge is a former football student- athlete for Texas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science and a Master’s degree in Sport Management.

Coaches

Baseball -- Jonathan Hadra, a four-year letterman and 2004 graduate of VMI, was named the 20th head coach in VMI baseball history. Hadra had been serving as the acting head coach since Nov. 3, when he was named to that role following the resignation of Marlin Ikenberry. Hadra  has spent five seasons on this, his second tour of duty with the Keydets, rising to associate head coach prior to the 2014 season. He has worked with the infielders and hitters during the majority of that time, as well as serving as the program's recruiting coordinator since 2011.

Men’s Basketball -- University of Iowa head men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery has signed a one-year extension to his current contract. McCaffery is now signed through the 2019-2020 season. Since taking over the program in 2010, McCaffery has guided Iowa to three consecutive postseason tournaments (two NIT and one NCAA), and posted back-to-back 20-win and upper-division finishes in the Big Ten.

Women’s Basketball -- Monmouth University, entering its second season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2014-15, rewarded women's basketball head coach Jenny Palmateer with a contract extension. Palmateer, who is in her fourth year at the helm of the Hawks, originally signed a five-year contract upon her appointment as the seventh head coach in program history on April 21, 2011. The new deal extends Palmateer's contract to 2019.

Football -- Lane College has announced the resignation of the school's interim head football coach Malik Hoskins … Lewis & Clark College football coach Chris Sulages has resigned as the Pioneers head coach. Sulages has been a member of the Pioneers staff since 2003 and served as head coach since 2006. With Sulages at the helm, the Pioneers' best season was 2011 when the team went 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Northwest Conference action, finishing the conference in second place…Florida announced that Will Muschamp is stepping down at the end of the regular season. In his fourth season, Muschamp is 27-20 overall. He will finish out the season as Florida begins the search for his replacement …University of Montana head football coach Mick Delaney will retire at the conclusion of the 2014 football season. Delaney is currently in his third season as the Grizzlies' head coach, and has an overall record of 22-13. His 22 career wins are the seventh most in school history…University of Nebraska Kearney head football coach Darrell Morris will not return next year. Morris, who was 3-8 in this 15th season as head coach for the Lopers, had a career-high season record of 11-2 in 2009, and 10-2 in 2011. The Lopers were 3-8 in both 2012 and 2013 after joining the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. 

Deaths -- Peter Thomas Dalis, who served as UCLA Director of Athletics for 19 years, passed away November 15, at his home in Pacific Palisades due to complications from multiple myeloma. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. When he retired as UCLA’s director of athletics on June 30, 2002, Dalis ranked first in seniority among Pac-10 athletic directors. During his 19 years on the job, he continued the Bruin tradition of competing for national titles and conference championships. UCLA won 39 NCAA championships (22 men’s and 17 women’s). During that span, UCLA moved into the No. 1 spot nationally in terms of NCAA and collegiate team championships after trailing by 20 NCAA titles when he became AD.

Directors of Athletics -- University of Michigan announced the appointment of James Hackett, the recently retired chief executive officer of Michigan-based Steelcase Inc., as interim athletic director for the university. Hackett, 59, will serve as interim leader of the university's Athletic Department while a search for an AD is launched. He said he would not be a candidate for the permanent position. Hackett is a 1977 graduate of Michigan where he played center on the football team. He is a member of the board of advisors for the university’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and the Life Sciences Institute.

Associate Athletics Directors -- Jacksonville University announced the hiring of Alex Ricker-Gilbert as the associate athletic director of compliance and student-athlete services. Prior to his new post at Jacksonville, Ricker-Gilbert served as the assistant athletics director for compliance and student-services at Longwood University. Over the last three years, Ricker-Gilbert held Longwood’s senior compliance officer position for its 14 Division I programs. He also served as an academic advisor for softball, men’s soccer, along with men’s and women’s cross country.

Assistant Athletics Directors -- New Mexico State announced the appointment of veteran sports publicist Bill Powers as the new assistant athletic director of media relations for the Aggies. Powers, in his 28th year in the sports information profession, comes to New Mexico State from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was the assistant athletic director for external operations …University of Delaware Associate Athletic Director for Recreation Services Jake Okkola has announced the addition of Cortney Ranck to his staff. As assistant director for recreation for marketing, Ranck is responsible for the development and management of a marketing, sales, and promotional program for University of Delaware Recreation Services (which includes the UD Ice Arenas and Outdoor Pool).

Club Sports Coordinator- University of Delaware Associate Athletic Director for Recreation Services Jake Okkola has announced the addition of Caitlin Papili to his staff. As club sports coordinator, Papili will oversee a comprehensive club sport program within the division of athletics and recreation services at the University of Delaware. The position’s primary function is to monitor and manage the financial operations of all club sport organizations and provide direct oversight of club related financial activities.

Facility Operations Coordinator -- University of Delaware Associate Athletic Director for Recreation Services Jake Okkola has announced the addition of Kevin Rose to his staff. As facility operations coordinator, Rose is responsible for supporting the operation of indoor and outdoor campus recreation facilities and events, hiring, training, and supervising student staffing of the Carpenter Sports Building, and ensuring building policies and procedures are being followed.

Coaches

Baseball -- VMI baseball coach Marlin Ikenberry will step aside to pursue an opportunity in private business. Ikenberry leaves VMI as the Institute's all-time leader in wins, having won 282 games in 11 years as the head coach. He also stands as VMI's longest tenured baseball coach. Ikenberry was instrumental in a program turnaround that led to the first two national rankings in program history, 2007 and 2010, as well as new school records for victories on multiple occasions and a substantial improvement in facilities, including the building of Gray-Minor.

Football -- The contract of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops has been amended to extend through the 2019 season. The new agreement extends the term from June 30, 2019, to June 30, 2020.  It gives the coach five seasons remaining on his contract following the current campaign. Currently sporting a 5-3 record, Kentucky has won more games this season than the previous two seasons combined (two each in 2012 and 2013).

Women’s Soccer -- Purdue will not renew the contract of head women's soccer coach Robert Klatte. Klatte, who just completed his 17th season, has been the only head coach in program history. He posted a 175-141-32 record (.549 winning percentage), including a 71-78-17 Big Ten mark. Purdue finished 6-11-2 (2-10-1 Big Ten) in 2014 … The contract of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head women's soccer coach Greg Henschel will not be renewed, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Amanda Braun.  In three seasons at the helm of the Panthers' program, Henschel compiled a 24-28-4 record … University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced the resignation of soccer coach J.D. Kyzer.  Kyzer recently finished his 15th season as the head of the Mocs’ soccer program. Kyzer was the 2003 Southern Conference Coach of the Year and produced 14 All-Southern Conference performers in 15 seasons.  Prior to his arrival at UTC, he spent five years as the head coach of Queens College in Charlotte.  His 20-year career mark as a head coach stands at 145-190-23. 

Conferences

Staff--- A member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference staff since 1990, Barbara Church, announced her retirement after 25 years. Church brought her on-campus experience from Saint Peter’s College (now Saint Peter's University) to the conference office. Her responsibilities include managing the MAAC budget and financial operations, overseeing the Conference’s compliance program, and serving as the HR Administrator and the Senior Woman Administrator.  

Deaths -- Ferrum College and the department of intercollegiate athletics mourn the loss of men's and women’s swimming coach Tom Calomeris, who died unexpectedly on Nov. 4. Calomeris came to Ferrum in October 2012 from Lexington, Virginia, to serve as women's swimming coach. At the time of his hiring, Calomeris also began recruiting for a men's swimming program, which launched in the fall of 2013. His men's swimming team had a record of 2-0 record this season prior to his passing.

Directors of athletics – Peggy Carl, the athletic director at Beloit College since 2008, resigned her position … Springfield College Director of Athletics Cathie Schweitzer announced that this will be her final academic year and she will step down from her position, effective June 30, 2015. Springfield College athletics is perennially one of the top programs in the country according to the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup. For the third-straight year and fourth time in the past six years, the Pride ranked in the top-30 programs the 444 Division III athletic programs in the country in the 2013-2014 academic year, while also finishing as high as 13th in 1999-2000 … Ball State appointed Brian Hardin interim athletics director. Hardin, who has served Ball State as a deputy athletic director since February 2013, was the director of football media relations at Notre Dame for seven years before coming to Ball State and worked for the Chicago Bears in media relations for four years before that … Valerie Cleary, the associate athletics director at Portland State (Oregon), has been named the interim athletic director following the resignation of Torre Chisholm. Cleary took over the duties of her new position on Oct. 13 … The Air Force Academy announced Director of Athletics Hans Mueh, will retire in January. Dr. Mueh had previously announced he would retire in June 2015, at the end of his current contract … Suffolk University has announced the appointment of Cary McConnell as Director of Athletics. McConnell has served as interim director since August of 2013 following the retirement of James Nelson earlier that year. McConnell becomes Suffolk's third athletics director in the program's sixty eight year history…Quinnipiac University has announced that Jack McDonald will retire at the conclusion of his 20th year as the Bobcats’ director of athletics and recreation, effective on June 30, 2015. McDonald has steered Quinnipiac athletics through unparalleled growth during his 20 years as the department’s head, most notably as the guiding force in the University’s elevation from a NCAA Division II program to the Division I-AAA level, and the securing of NCAA certification in its first year at the Division I level.

Associate athletics directors – Mary Bowman, Utah's senior associate athletics director for student-athlete support services and senior woman administrator, has announced she will retire in December after 19 years at the Utah. The Iowa native was hired in 1996 as Utah's first director of student-athlete support services. She was promoted to assistant athletics director in 1999 and was named Utah's SWA in 2003. In 2005, she became an associate athletics director and in 2011 was promoted to senior associate A.D. … Carol Howe-Veenstra, who came to College Saint Benedict in 1985 and served as the head volleyball coach for 15 years and the school's athletic director for the past 28 years, will retire June 19, 2015 … Jeff Macy was promoted to associate athletic director for sports performance at Oregon State. Macy had served as the director of sports performance since June 2013 in his second tenure on campus. In his first stint at Oregon State, Macy spent more than two years, starting in 2006, as the head strength and conditioning coach. Macy also has experience in the National Basketball Association as the strength and conditioning coach for the Milwaukee Bucks for five years and as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Chicago Bulls for five seasons … Xavier named Susan Cross Lipnickey is the athletics department’s associate athletics director for student-athlete welfare and senior woman administrator. Lipnickey comes to Xavier from nearby Miami (Ohio), where she served multiple roles on and off campus. Lipnickey, an associate professor in Miami’s Department of Kinesiology and Health, has served as the school’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative since 1999. Lipnickey, a native of Walpole, Massachusetts, moved to Oxford, Ohio, in 1978 to begin her Miami teaching career … University of Arkansas at Monticello has announced the promotion of Matt Whiting to Associate Athletic Director. Whiting is in his third year as UAM's external operations director. Since joining the UAM staff, Whiting has been instrumental in rebranding the UAM Sports Association, the private fundraising arm of UAM Athletics. As a result, UAM has benefited from a 130 percent increase in annual donors and a more than 400 percent increase in annual donations… University of Nebraska announced today the hiring of David Witty as Senior Associate Athletic Director – Marketing and Communications. He will serve as a member of the Senior Management Team and provide administrative and strategic leadership for the Athletics Department and will direct and oversee marketing and brand management, including development and implementation of local, regional and national marketing and branding strategies… University of Illinois announced today (Monday) the hiring of Brad Wurthman as the Associate Director of Athletics, Marketing and Fan Development. He will be responsible for creating marketing strategies for all of Illinois' varsity sports, while orchestrating the gameday presentation and fan experience for football and men's basketball games… Fordham University announced the promotion of Mary Cunneen to Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities/Event Management. Cunneen oversees the departments of event management and athletic facilities, serving as the managing director for daily facilities operations for the athletic department. This includes daily management, personnel supervision for the facilities, special event direction as well as project oversight on athletic department construction projects.

Assistant athletics directors -- Penn State hired Brad Keen as the assistant athletic director for marketing. Keen will oversee the marketing and promotions initiatives for Penn State's 31-sport athletic program. He will work directly with Coach James Franklin’s football program in a variety of areas, including ticketing, branding and game day fan experience … Fayetteville State (North Carolina) announced the hiring of James Bryant in the department of athletics as the assistant athletics director for marketing and development. Bryant obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Fayetteville State in 2006. He is a native Charlotte, North Carolina. Bryant is an alumnus and former student-athlete as a three year member of the Broncos football team and vice chairman of the FSU Business Management Club … Sonoma State hired Shannon Percell as an assistant athletics director. Percell has been at Sonoma State since 2009 in a variety of rules including assistant women's soccer coach, business operations specialist, and interim assistant athletics director … Holy Family University Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Jami Hughes as Assistant Director of Athletics for Daily Operations. Hughes, whose appointment will commence on Nov. 3, will be responsible for the daily operations of the department, including day-to-day administration of athletic facilities, event management and scheduling.  In addition, Hughes will oversee event operations and coordinate team travel arrangements and transportation… The Ohio University athletics department has promoted Drake Bolon to Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales. Bolon oversees all marketing, ticket sales and advertising efforts for the Bobcats' 16 varsity sports. In 2011, Bolon led the creation of the Ohio Ticket Sales Team. Under his direction, the sales team has generated the highest season ticket sales and revenue in Ohio Football and Ohio Men's Basketball history for two consecutive seasons… Fordham University announced today the promotion of Joe Webber to Assistant Director of Athletics for Equipment Operations and Purchasing. Webber joined the Fordham staff after two years at the University of New Haven. As the Equipment Manager, Webber guided the equipment room and handled all equipment-related concerns for all 16 Charger athletic teams.

Chief financial officer – Auburn announced the hiring of Lori Arthurs as Chief Financial Officer for the athletics department. Arthurs moves into the position after 11 years as the department’s director of finance and more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry.

Development -- Joey Knight joined Catawba College as the director of athletic development, responsible for athletic fund-raising and cultivation of major donors. Knight comes to Catawba from Winston-Salem State University where he worked since August of 2013 as director of corporate development for athletics. There, he fundraised for athletics, managed a portfolio of donors, and was responsible for implementing an initiative that allowed online sales of football season tickets for the first time in the university's history.

Compliance – Wisconsin-Green Bay named Kassie Batchelor the director of compliance and support services.

Faculty Athletic Representative – University of Maryland Eastern Shore hired school Mathematics Department Chair Robert Johnson, Jr. as Faculty Athletic Representative.  Johnson is a former NCAA football student-athlete who has worked at the university since 1999. He replaces Henry Brooks who served for 25 years until his retirement this past June.

Promotions – Miami (Ohio) announced that Ellie Witter has been promoted to director of promotions and fan engagement. Witter served as the assistant director of promotions for the RedHawks for the past five years and began her career as a sales and special events manager for Miami in 2008.

Social media – Holy Cross athletic department named Kevin Haas director of social and digital marketing. Haas will be responsible for engaging fans, analyzing data to deliver insights and action plans for social media, digital strategy and email engagement efforts.

Ticket sales – Logan Hendricks was named the director of ticket sales and services at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Coaches

Baseball – Davis & Elkins (West Virginia) hired Charlie Goens as baseball coach. Goens comes to Davis & Elkins after a four-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond. He helped the Spiders to a pair of runner-up finishes in the Atlantic 10 and also helped recruit a pair of A10 Freshman of the Year in Tanner Stanley and Zack Sterling.

Men’s basketball –Stanford extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins. Terms of the contract were not disclosed per university policy. Dawkins led the Cardinal to the 2014 NCAA tournament Sweet 16 and the 2012 Postseason NIT championship … Belmont Abbey Director of Athletics Stephen Miss has named Crusaders Associate Head Coach Martin Unger as head men's basketball coach. Unger, who becomes the 15th head coach in school history, served the past two years as the associate head coach and was elevated from assistant coach on September 26, 2012 after the appointment of Miss to director of athletics. Miss, the Crusaders men's basketball coach the last seven years with the last two while also serving as director of athletics, stepped down from coaching to focus solely on leading the athletics department … Clarion named Marcus Williams men's basketball coach. Williams comes to Clarion after leading Penn St.-Beaver to an average of 17.6 wins per season in his nine years including at least 20 victories in each of the past six seasons … Medaille College hired Mike Blaine as head coach of the men's basketball program. Blaine comes to Medaille with over ten years of experience working for NCAA basketball programs. Most recently he was an assistant coach on the Cornell University staff. While at Cornell, Blaine played a large role in player skill development and was able to help in the growth of several All-Ivy League honorees … Tennessee Tech signed men’s basketball coach Steve Payne to a contract extensions that will keep him at the school through the 2018-19 season.

Men’s basketball assistants – The College of Charleston hired Quinton Ferrell as an assistant coach. Ferrell returns home to the state of South Carolina from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He will work primarily with the Cougars’ guards.

Men’s director of basketball operations -- The College of Charleston hired J.D. Powell as director of men’s basketball operations. Powell was previously at The Citadel from 2010-14 and as an assistant coach at Charleston Southern University from 2004-10 … Wisconsin-Green Bay promoted Rick Karius to director of men’s basketball operations. He was the team’s video coordinator last season.

Women’s basketball -- Holy Cross Director of Athletics Nathan Pine has announced that the school has agreed to a four-year contract extension with head women’s basketball coach Bill Gibbons through June of 2019, the terms of which were not disclosed. Gibbons will be entering into his 30th year as head coach of the Crusaders in 2014-2015. During his coaching career, Gibbons’ teams have won 11 Patriot League regular season championships, 12 Patriot League Tournament championships and made 13 postseason appearances (11 NCAAs, one WNIT and one WBI). In 1991, his team defeated Maryland 81-74 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which remains the only NCAA tournament victory by a Patriot League school. During Gibbons’ first 29 years, his Crusader teams have won 20 or more games 17 times … Medaille College named Rachelle "Rocko" Matthys head coach of the women's basketball program. Matthys joins the Medaille Mavericks for her first year as a collegiate head coach. Matthys, who played collegiately at the University of Buffalo, returned from her fourth year of playing professional basketball overseas. She played in Germany, Australia and England during which she captured a Division II championship title in Germany … Tennessee Tech signed women’s basketball coach Jim Davis to a contract extension through the 2018-19 season. Davis was hired in July of 2012, and is only the fifth head coach in the 44-year history of women’s basketball at Tennessee Tech. In his first season at Tech, he guided his team to a first-place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference East Division … The University of Miami (Florida) and head women’s basketball coach Katie Meier have agreed to terms on a contract extension through the 2020-21 season. Meier, who has been at the helm of the women’s basketball program at Miami since 2005, led the Hurricanes to their fifth straight postseason appearance this past season.

Women’s basketball assistants – Stony Brook named Kelly Rotan to the women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. Rotan comes to the Seawolves after spending a combined three seasons as an assistant coach at Air Force Academy and Yale.

Bowling – New Jersey City University named Rell Smith women’s bowling coach.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistants – David Willis has been named as the new assistant cross country coach at the College of Charleston.

Football – Legendary Troy football head coach Larry Blakeney will retire following the conclusion of the 2014 season. Blakeney, who is in his 24th season at Troy, currently ranks seventh among active coaches with 175 career victories, which is one shy of former Auburn head coach Shug Jordan for the third most by a coach in the state of Alabama … Dave Caputi has announced that he will step down as head football coach at Bowdoin College at the conclusion of the 2014 season. Caputi is in his fifteenth season as head coach. Caputi joined the Bowdoin athletic staff in the spring of 2000 after serving as the offensive coordinator for Williams College. Before joining Williams, Caputi served as the quarterbacks and secondary coach for Tufts University from 1985-86. Caputi earned his undergraduate degree in American history at Middlebury College in 1981.

Men’s and women’s golf -- Young Harris College announced that Brett Beazley has resigned his position as the head coach for the men’s and women’s golf program, effective immediately. Dunn announced that current assistant coach Caleb Kelley will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Kelley, who has served as assistant coach since 2012, played for the Mountain Lions for four seasons and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in history from the College in 2012.

Men’s ice hockey assistants – St. Michael’s College named Casey Fratkin assistant men's ice hockey coach.

Men’s lacrosse – Jim Morrissey has been named the men’s lacrosse coach at Saint Rose. He previously served as the head coach at College of the Holy Cross and worked as an assistant at Hobart, Cornell and his alma mater Syracuse, which won the 2000 NCAA National Championship and was runner-up the previous year.

Women’s lacrosse – Radford announced the hiring of Haley Marvine as the school's inaugural head women's lacrosse coach. The Highlanders will begin competition in the Big South Conference in the spring of 2016. Marvine is no stranger to the process of beginning a lacrosse program and promoting the emerging sport of women's lacrosse with both experience as a head coach. She comes to Radford from Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. where she is the only coach the Pioneers have had in two seasons of competition. In those two seasons against more established programs, Marvine led the Pioneers to a 12-13 overall record, including a 7-7 mark in 2014.

Men’s soccer -- James Madison announced that Tom Martin will not return as head coach after the 2014 season, which is the final year of his contract. Associate Head Coach Tom Foley will assume the head coaching role following the conclusion of the current season. Martin is currently the active winningest coach in Division I and fifth in all-time wins among Division I coaches. Martin has led the Dukes to a 352-158-55 record in his 28-plus seasons, including nine NCAA Tournament berths, seven Colonial Athletic Association regular season titles and four CAA Tournament championships … Richard Stockton head men’s soccer coach Jeff Haines will retire from coaching at the conclusion of the 2014 season after 17 years at the helm of the Osprey program. Haines will transition into an administrative role as an assistant athletic director at Stockton. He is one of the most successful Division III coaches in the sport, entering the current season ranked 26th among active coaches and 35th all-time in winning percentage (.710) as well as 37th among active coaches in wins (257).

Softball -- Southern Wesleyan announced the hiring of Becca Staton as the head coach for the softball program. Staton played for four years at the school, competing in 183 games during her time. She compiled 21 RBI as a senior which ranked fourth on the team. Staton was a senior during the program's most successful season in the last decade, winning 28 games in 2013 and advancing to the conference tournament for the first time in three years ... Canisius named Kim Griffin school’s softball coach. Griffin, who has served as the program’s interim head coach for the last two months, replaces Mike Rappi, who retired July 28 after serving as the Golden Griffins’ head coach for 36 years. Griffin served as an assistant on Rappl’s coaching staff for seven seasons, starting in 2008 when she joined the program as a volunteer assistant. In her first year with the program, she was a part of the coaching staff that helped guide Canisius to a school-record 39 wins, a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division I Softball tournament. In 2014, she took over as the program’s pitching coach.

Softball assistant coaches – University of Delaware announced the addition of Sarah Maulorico to the Blue Hen softball staff as an assistant coach. Maulorico, who will serve as Delaware’s pitching coach, comes to the program after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant at Division III Moravian College, including her final season as associate head coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis -- Ferrum College has announced the resignation of Joshua Parmenter as head tennis coach. Parmenter assumed the position in December 2013. Rod Baker will assume leadership for Ferrum's tennis programs, serving as head coach for the men and women. Baker has served as assistant men's soccer coach the past three seasons and is in his fifth overall season in that role. He will continue in that role working with head coach Andrew Pauly. Baker previously served three seasons as head men's soccer coach from 2006-08 and four years as head women's tennis coach from 2005-08.

Men’s and women’s track and field -- Mike McCadney has been named the men’s and women’s track and field coach at Saint Rose. McCadney brings coaching experience from the collegiate and high school levels, in addition to private clubs. McCadney is a former assistant coach and director of cross country/track and field operations at his alma mater, the University at Albany. He most recently worked as an assistant coach at St. John Fisher College and Charlotte High School in Rochester, and at the Leadership Academy for Young Men within the Rochester City School District.

Water polo assistants – Dante Dettamanti, inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2002 for his coaching success, is joining the recently reinstated San Jose State University men’s water polo program as the assistant coach. One of the country’s legendary figures in the sport of water polo, Dettamanti coached the Stanford men’s team to eight NCAA championships, six runner-up finishes and 20 top-four finishes in his 25 seasons (1977-2001) with the Cardinal. Six times, he was named the NCAA coach of the year in men’s water polo.

Wrestling – Alfred State hired Paul Reid as the college's new wrestling coach. Reid brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Pioneer wrestling program. Previously, Reid was an assistant wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (2009-2011) and at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (2008-2009).

Deaths

Former Maryland State (now University of Maryland Eastern Shore) basketball player and track standout Albert Santio died in Canada this past August at age 74. Santio, who graduated in 1963, was a four-year basketball starter and track All-American in the shot put and discus, helping Maryland State win the NCAA College Division Championships in 1963 … Paul Valenti, an Oregon State athlete, coach, administrator and goodwill ambassador for more than 70 years, died Sept. 13, of natural causes. He was 94 years of age … Jimmy Feix, the winningest football coach in the history of Western Kentucky University football, passed away Oct. 4. He was 83. Feix served his alma mater as an All-America athlete, assistant football coach, head football coach, assistant director of alumni affairs, director of alumni affairs and director of athletics almost continuously from his arrival on campus as a freshman athlete in 1949 until his retirement in 1990 … Former Missouri student-athlete, coach, administrator and broadcaster John Kadlec passed away Oct. 29, at the age of 86. Kadlec, known affectionately as "Mr. Mizzou" to most Tiger fans, earned that moniker because of his long-standing dedication to his alma mater that spanned more than 50 years … Philadelphia University announced the sudden loss of softball coach Joe Long, who passed away Oct. 27. Long, 47, was the program’s head coach for three seasons. Long was associated with the Philadelphia University softball program since 2008. After serving as the team’s assistant coach for four years, Long was elevated to head coach on June 30, 2011. In his tenure as the Rams’ head coach, Philadelphia went 57-77 overall and played in the 2013 and 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournaments—the team’s first back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament since 2009 and 2010.

Former Alaska Anchorage athletics director, Steve Cobb, died at the age of 55 … Clinton R. “Bob” Moorman, the first full time commissioner for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the 1970s died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. During his tenure with the CIAA, Moorman served on a number of NCAA committees: president of the college division commissioners’ association, athletic steering committee, division II football and basketball Committees, professional liaison committee, and NACDA.  He also represented the NCAA and United States at the first Goodwill Games in the Soviet Union … Paul Valenti, a student-athlete, coach and administrator for over 70 years at Oregon State died at the age of 90 … Central Connecticut State coaching legend died at the age of 87.

Deaths

Chuck Smith, Missouri-St. Louis’s first-ever men’s basketball coach, died on July 21 at the age of 87. Smith started the program in 1966 and after 13 seasons as head coach, he resigned to become the school’s first full-time athletics director. A position he held until his retirement in 1992 … Jim Schneider, longtime member of the Michigan athletic communications staff, died on July 21. “Schneids” spent 30 years with the department, 18 of those with the football team … Art Stockin, who was the head swimming and diving coach at SUNY New Paltz from 1966 to 1994, died on July 21 at the age of 74. He was also a 1963 graduate of the university ... Texas-Pan American announced the death of former sports information director Jim McKone on July 26 at the age of 80 … Former Columbia athletics director, Al Paul, died on July 28 at the again of 80. He guided the department for 17 years … Dr. Robert (Bob) Newcomb, one of the leading ambassadors for UC Irvine volleyball and collegiate volleyball, died on July 10 ... McMurry announced the death of current football student-athlete Billy Cole. The junior running back was in a car accident on August 12.

After 37 seasons of coaching at the division III level, Neer retires as one of its most successful coaches. He compiled 629 wins, good for 10th all-time in division III. Men’s and women’s gymnastics – A 2009 graduate and former program standout, Aryn Bell, was named head women’s coach at Gustavus Aldolphus … After 36 years at the helm of Alabama’s legendary program, Sarah Patterson, is stepping down for health reasons. Patterson lead the team to six national championships and 1,006 wins ... Two-time NCAA balance beam champion Dana Duckworth has been named head women’s coach at Alabama. After four years as a gymnast, nine seasons as a volunteer coach and the last six as an assistant coach, Duckworth's first as head coach will be her 20th year with the Alabama program.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey – Holy Cross hired David Berard as its head men’s coach … R.J. Tolan resigned as Wentworth Institute’s head men’s coach to accept a similar position at Endicott … Bemidji State named its former two-time all-american goaltender James Scanlan as its head women’s coach ...Adrian named its former captain, Adam Krug, as its new head men’s coach. Krug was the team’s captain during the program’s inaugural season in 2007-08. 

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Aurora added Christine Fried as its head women’s coach … Eastern named Kim Campbell as its new head women’s coach … Stetson hired Ohio State assistant coach, Christy Leach, as its new head women’s coach … Andy Towers stepped down as Dartmouth’s head men’s coach … Indianapolis announced newlyweds Greg Stocks and Jillian Howley will coach the newly created men’s and women’s programs respectively ... Morrisville State selected Kelsey Schwan to take over as its head women’s coach. Rowing – Texas hired Dave O’Neill as head coach. O’Neill led California to two NCAA team titles, 12 NCAA top-four finishes and four NCAA individual event crowns ... Eastern Michigan promoted Kemp Savage to head coach. Savage recently completed his sixth season as an assistant with the program … Clemson named Stephen Frazier Wong as head coach. Serving as Nova Southeastern’s head coach over the past two seasons, he led the program to its first national championship in his first season and a second place finish in his second season.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Brienne Smith resigned as head women’s coach at Moravian to accept a similar position at her alma mater, Clark (Massachusetts) … Lenoir-Rhyne added Tammy DeCesare as its head women’s coach ... Illinois Wesleyan named Kyle Schauls as its head men’s coach … Eckerd added Cristian Neagu as its head men’s coach … John Jay selected Casey Sommers as its head women’s coach … Saint Vincent named its former defensive standout Ashley Shasko as its head women’s coach ... Sarah Lawrence hired Scott Miller as its head men’s coach. Keijzer was a doctoral student in the chemistry department. She was 25 years old … Baseball coaching legend John Winkin died on July 19 at the age of 94 years old. Winkin was at Colby from 1955 to 1974 and also served as athletics director. He had a 301-202-5 record in his time with the Mules and was the National Baseball Coach of the Year in 1965. He went on to coach at Maine after his time at Colby and posted a 642-430-3 record in 22 years. While seemingly retired from coaching, Winkin decided to coach at Husson and went over 1,000 career wins. He had a 100-74-8 record with Husson and finished his coaching career in 2007 at 1,043-706-16 … Following a two-year battler with cancer, Massachusetts’ head men’s soccer coach, Sam Koch, died on July 20. Koch was hired in 1991 for what was planned as the program’s last year and is credited for reviving the program. He was 59 years old … Former head men’s and women’s soccer coach at South Florida, T. Logan Fleck, died at the age of 54 years old. 

Operations – Flagler named its former student-athlete Cade Smith as its facilities operations manager. He played baseball for the college from 2008-12.

He was 60 years old … Harvey Heartley, Sr., Saint Augustine’s coaching great, died on June 23 at the age of 79 … Roosevelt "Sandy" Gilliam Jr., a former athletic director and coach at Maryland Eastern Shore, died May 16 at his Lancaster, S.C. home after a lengthy illness. He was 81 ... St. Mary’s (Texas) coaching legend Ed Messbarger died on June 30. He was 81 years old. Messbarger spent 15 years as the university’s men’s basketball coach. Over his 41-year coaching career, Messbarger eclipsed 630 wins, retiring third all-time in division II history for most wins ... Former Eastern Michigan head baseball coach and E-Club athletic hall of famer Ron Oestrike died on July 11 at the age of 82. Oestrike, the namesake for the Eagles' baseball stadium, was the winningest coach in program history with 657 wins and led the program to two NCAA College World Series appearances.

Former Northern State head men’s basketball coach, Don Meyer, died on May 18 at the age of 69 after a six-year battle with cancer. Meyer made college basketball history in 2009, becoming the career leader in wins with 923.

Associate commissioners – The American Athletic Conference named Scott Draper as its associate commissioner for football. Draper was the associate director of athletics and director of athletics at Albion. Prior to that he was the assistant athletics director for football operations at Michigan. He helped the team win four Big Ten championships, four Rose Bowls, 12 bowl games and the 1997 National Championship game. 

Deaths

John R. “Jack” Davis, former NCAA faculty representative at both Nebraska and Oregon State, died Friday, April 25, at the age of 86. He served as president of the NCAA from 1985-87 … John Servati, a junior on Alabama’s swim team, died on Monday April 28. He was killed while hiding from the tornadoes that touched down in Tuscaloosa. The 21-year-old was a native of Tupelo, Mississippi.

Dr. Rick Schavone announced his retirement after 36 seasons as Stanford’s head diving coach. Schavone molded Stanford into one of the top programs in the country. He was a four-time NCAA diving coach of the year and nine-time Pac-12 coach of the year.

Hartwell died on April 11. He served as athletics director from 1986-2011 … Colorado College’s legendary football coach Jerry Carle died at the age of 90. Carle doubled as the director of athletics for 25 years while coaching for 33 seasons.

Former Temple athletics director Dave O’Brien died on March 1 at the age of 57. He had battled cancer for the last six years … Penn State announced former associate athletics director and senior woman administrator Ellen Perry died at the age of 72 … Delaware coaching legend “Irv Whiz” Wisniewski died after a brief illness at the age of 89 … William G. “Elbows” Simpson, former Clarion wrestling standout, died on February 12 at the age of 62 … Texas announced the death of longtime associates athletics director and co-director of sports medicine Tina Bonci. She died on March 7 at the age of 59 … St. Bonaventure’s assistant sports information director Brian Moretti died unexpectedly of apparent cardiac arrest on March 5. At the time, Moretti was traveling with the women’s basketball team for the Atlantic 10 tournament. He was 26 … Former South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball standout Meredith Legg Stapleton died on February after a five-year battle with ocular melanoma. She was 26 years old … Former American men’s soccer standout Shawn Kuykendall died March 12 after an eight-month battle with thymic cancer. The 32 year-old was the university’s first and only Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. After graduating in 2005, he played for D.C. United in the MLS and was an assistant coach at his alma mater from 2011-13.

Boston College announced that longtime assistant athletics director for athletic communications, Dick Kelley, died after a battle with ALS, he was 48 years old. Kelley spent the last 22 years as the men’s basketball contact. He received the 2013 US Basketball Writers Association’s Most Courageous Award.

She was 74. Haverbeck was a pioneer for women in the sports information field and was the first woman inducted into the CoSIDA hall of fame … Earl Yestingsmeier, long-term men’s golf coach and sports information director died at the age of 80 … Miami (Ohio)’s long-time athletics director and former men’s basketball coach, Richard G. (Dick) Shrider, died on Tuesday, January 21, at the age of 90 … Wilford Moore, former McMurry football coach, died on Tuesday January 21, at the age of 94 … Former Arizona athletics director Dave Strack died on Saturday, January 24, at the age of 90 … Larry Kramer, the second winningest  football coach in Emporia State history, died on January 24, at the age of 71 … Southern California water polo student-athlete Jon Walters died January 8 of a heart attack, he was 19.
