Presidents and chancellors

Fort Lewis President Dene Thomas announced she will retire June 30, 2018. Thomas became president at Fort Lewis in 2010 … John J. Neuhauser plans to step down as Saint Michael’s president in June 2018. He has been president since July 1, 2007 … Robert E. Gustafson Jr. was named president of Erskine after serving as interim president since Nov. 1.

Athletics directors

Dale Lennon was named athletics director of the University of Mary. Lennon has been the director of public affairs at Mary since February 2016. He previously was a football coach at Mary, North Dakota and Southern Illinois … Cal State San Bernardino appointed Shawn Farrell as director of athletics, effective July 1. He most recently was associate director of athletics at Seattle and previously served several months as interim athletics director there.

Coaches

Men’s basketball

After two stints coaching the Eastern Oregon University program, Isaac Williams was named head coach of the Cal State Monterey Bay team. Williams returned as head coach of the Mountaineers in April 2016 after spending three years as director of basketball operations at Boise State. He previously coached Eastern Oregon from 2009 to 2013.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey

Joe Shawhan was named head coach of the Michigan Tech men’s team. Shawhan has been an assistant coach for the Huskies for three seasons.

Softball

Walsh hired Anna Ball as head coach. Ball has been head coach for Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, since 2015.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Air Force promoted Colleen Murphy to head coach of the women’s team. Murphy recently completed her fifth season at the academy, four as assistant coach and one as associate head coach.

Athletics directors

Bill Klika is retiring as director of athletics at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham after 28 years in the post. Current Associate Director of Athletics Roger Kindel, who is head coach of the men’s golf team, will serve as interim director of athletics. Klika founded the Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham football program in 1974, serving as head coach until 1996. From 1982 to 1988, he also served as head baseball coach … Rockford named Jason Mulligan as director of athletics. Mulligan, who spent the past five years as athletics director at Western Boone High School in Indiana, has 11 years of experience at Wabash and the University of New England … John Chandler, who has served 16 years as director of athletics at Coe, is returning to his former role as an athletic trainer at the college.

Associate athletics directors

Oregon State appointed Dan Bartholomae as deputy athletics director for capital projects and internal operations. Bartholomae spent the past 15 years at Pittsburgh, most recently as deputy athletics director for internal affairs … Rutgers hired Michael Szul as senior associate athletics director for finance, administration and planning and Rick Thorpe as senior associate athletics director for external affairs and strategic communications. Szul previously was associate athletics director for business operations at West Virginia, and Thorpe was associate athletics director for sales and fan experience at Georgia Tech.

Coaches

Baseball

Massachusetts hired Matt Reynolds as head coach of his alma mater. Reynolds most recently worked three years as head coach at Washington College and spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Navy before that.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Concordia (New York) named Philip Toscano head coach of its women’s program. Toscano spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.

May 26

Presidents and chancellors

Dr. Douglas A. Girod was named chancellor at Kansas. Since 2013, Girod has been executive vice chancellor of the University of Kansas Medical Center … Daniel White was selected as chancellor of Alaska Fairbanks. White, who will begin in his new position July 1, has been serving as vice president for academic affairs and research for the University of Alaska system … Michael Middleton was named interim president of Lincoln (Missouri). Middleton most recently was interim president of the University of Missouri system.

Athletics directors

Maine-Presque Isle hired Dan Kane as athletics director and head men’s basketball coach. Kane spent last season as lead assistant men’s basketball coach at Connecticut College.

Baseball

The Citadel head coach Fred Jordan is retiring. Jordan accumulated 831 wins in 26 years.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Coker named Kate Keagins head coach of the women’s team. Keagins, who has served as interim head coach since May 2016, led the Cobras to a 14-5 record in 2017, the best season in program history.

Men’s and women’s tennis

Oklahoma Baptist hired Nick Papac as head men’s and women’s coach. Papac played at Oklahoma and was a captain of the 2014-15 Sooners team, which was ranked No. 1 in the nation. He has been a volunteer coach at Oklahoma since August and volunteered at Georgia before that.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Katrina English was named head coach of the women’s team at Kentucky State. English spent the past four seasons as head coach at Temple Junior College in Temple, Texas … Colorado Christian hired Bobby Blanken as head coach of its women’s team. Blanken has served as first assistant coach at Metropolitan State University of Denver since 2014.

Conferences

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference hired Kirsten McCowan as director of championships and business operations. McCowan spent the past year at the Big 12 Conference as the championships assistant.

May 24

Presidents and chancellors

Alexander Cartwright, provost of the State University of New York system, was named chancellor at Missouri … Leo E. Morton announced he plans to retire as chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City in spring 2018. Morton has been chancellor since December 2008 … Bashar W. Hanna was named president of Bloomsburg. Hanna, who will take his post July 7, is a professor of biology and former vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Delaware Valley.

Athletics directors

Hartford named Mary Ellen Gillespie as director of athletics. Gillespie, who has been athletics director at Green Bay since 2013, will begin work July 10 at Hartford … Adam Puckett will become director of athletics at George Fox this summer after the retirement of Craig Taylor, who steps down in June. Taylor spent 43 years at George Fox, the last 29 as athletics director. Puckett, a 2004 graduate of the university and a member of its board of trustees since 2011, is a partner at Delap, an accounting and advisory firm based in Portland, Oregon.

Associate athletics directors

Carl Christian was named interim associate director of athletics at York (New York). Christian previously directed the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Queens (New York), serving as head coach of the women’s team from 2008 to 2016 and head coach of the men’s team from 2011 to 2017.

Assistant athletics directors

Marquette hired Torrey Ball as assistant athletics director for marketing and fan engagement. Ball previously was director of marketing and student engagement at Nebraska … Ashland promoted Jeremy Hancock to assistant athletics director and director of sports medicine. Hancock will continue as athletic trainer for the football, men’s golf and women’s golf teams.

Santa Clara head baseball coach Dan O'Brien is stepping down after six years in the position … Cincinnati head coach Ty Neal resigned his position for personal reasons after four seasons with the team … Dayton head coach Tony Vittorio is stepping down. Vittorio, who is wrapping up his 18th season, is the program’s winningest coach with more than 460 wins … La Salle announced Mike Lake was relieved of his duties as head coach. Lake recently completed his 10th season as head coach … Greg Goff was relieved of his duties as head coach at Alabama. Associate head coach Terry Rooney will serve as interim head coach … After nine seasons as head coach at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Manny Mantrana is stepping down to become special assistant to the athletics director.

Women’s basketball

Lewis hired Samantha Quigley Smith as head coach. She spent the past five seasons as head coach of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois … Nikki McCray-Penson was named head coach at Old Dominion. McCray-Penson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time WNBA All-Star, has served as an assistant coach at South Carolina since May 2008.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field

Missouri S&T announced Shaun Meinecke as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs. Meinecke has been an assistant coach at Wyoming for the past five years … Doug Petersen was named director of the track and field/cross country program at Sioux Falls. Peterson previously coached the men’s and women’s cross country teams and assisted with the distance student-athletes in track and field … Mike Maynard, UCLA’s director of track and field and cross country, is stepping down. Maynard has coached for eight years at UCLA, including the past five in his current post.

Field hockey

The Sage Colleges selected Gillian McDonald as head coach. The new program will begin play in fall 2018, when the team competes as a member of the Empire 8. McDonald spent the past 12 years as head coach at Hamilton.

Men’s and women’s golf

Tyler Schiffelbein resigned as head men’s and women’s coach at Texas A&M-Commerce as he and his wife are moving to Kansas. Schiffelbein spent three semesters at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics

Alaska Anchorage women’s head coach Paul Stoklos has retired. Stoklos has coached the Seawolves for 33 seasons.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Danielle Horoschak stepped down as head coach of the Young Harris women’s program to pursue other opportunities. Horoschak joined the Mountain Lions in the spring of 2016 as an assistant coach and took over as head coach for the 2017 season. Forrest MacConnell was named head coach of the Young Harris men’s team after serving as interim coach this past season … Delaware hired Ben DeLuca as head coach of its men’s team. DeLuca spent the past two seasons as associate head coach at Harvard.

Softball

Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner has stepped down after nine seasons leading the Hoosiers.

Men’s and women’s tennis

Minnesota State Mankato named Tony Boehler head coach of the women’s team. Boehler most recently was an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s programs at Bethany Lutheran … Virginia named Andres Pedroso as the director of tennis and head men’s coach. Pedroso was associate head coach of the Virginia men’s team from 2010 to 2014.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

South Dakota School of Mines hired Jenni Bolduc as head coach of the women’s program. Bolduc previously served as director of volleyball operations at Illinois, where she worked in an administrative role … Citing family reasons, J.J. Riley has resigned as head coach of the women’s team at Montana State. Riley completed his second season with the Bobcats last fall. Assistant coach Daniel Jones will serve as interim head coach for the 2017 season.

Wrestling

Pennsylvania announced Roger Reina will return as head coach at his alma mater. Reina led the Quakers from 1986 to 2005, amassing 205 wins and a .649 winning percentage.

Athletics directors

Methodist Vice President and Director of Athletics Bob McEvoy is retiring. McEvoy has worked at Methodist for 25 years, the past 19 as its director of athletics. McEvoy also previously served as men’s basketball coach and an assistant professor of physical education … Donna Mulhern Woodruff was named assistant vice president and director of athletics at Loyola Maryland. Woodruff has served as deputy director of athletics at Stony Brook since July 2014.

Associate athletics directors

Holy Cross promoted Rosemary Shea to senior associate athletics director for administration and senior woman administrator and Brendan Sullivan to senior associate athletics director and chief operating officer.

Assistant athletics directors

Holy Cross promoted Anthony Cerundolo to assistant athletics director for sports medicine.

Men’s basketball

Presbyterian added Dustin Kerns as head coach. Kerns has been on the Wofford coaching staff for seven seasons, the past four as associate head coach.

Women’s basketball

Chaminade hired Arthur “Art” King as head coach. King has served as an assistant coach for the Chaminade men’s team the past five seasons and played basketball for the Silverswords as a student-athlete.

Field hockey

Worcester State named Alexa Carlson head coach. As interim head coach for the 2016 season, Carlson was recognized as the Little East Conference Coach of the Year.

Men’s and women’s soccer

Laura Schott has decided to step down as head coach of the women’s team at Portland State after nine years at the helm … Stephanie Webb was named head coach of the women’s team at Guilford. Webb most recently was assistant head coach at Queens (North Carolina).

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants

Emory appointed Jake Dunn as assistant coach of the women’s team. Dunn spent the 2016 season on the women’s soccer staff at Rowan.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Arizona head coach Rick DeMont plans to step down after 30 years on the coaching staff of his alma mater. DeMont will remain in his position until a replacement is found … Doug Humphrey, who has served as head coach of the women’s team at the University of Northern Iowa for five seasons, was hired as head coach of the men’s and women’s programs at South Dakota State … John Geissinger was selected as head coach of the Hamilton men’s and women’s teams. Geissinger was the head coach and aquatics director at Arcadia for the past four seasons.

Women’s rowing

Duquesne promoted associate head coach Jenn Langzettel to head coach. She replaces Joe Setting, who was named assistant athletics director for business after serving as head coach for the past 11 years.

Conferences

Keith Gill was named executive associate commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference. He recently stepped down as athletics director at Richmond.

May 22

Athletics directors

Marie Tuite will serve as athletics director at San Jose State. Tuite, who arrived at San Jose State in 2010, had been heading the athletics department on an interim basis. She also has experience working at the NCAA national office and in leadership roles at five other college campuses … Kurt McGuffin, director of athletics for Missouri Western State, was named director of intercollegiate athletics at UT Martin.

Assistant athletics directors

Salem International promoted Alexander Joseph to assistant athletics director for compliance. Joseph, who previously was compliance coordinator, will continue to serve as advisor of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Virginia Tech announced Patrick Mason was relieved of his duties after four seasons as head coach. Mason previously served three years as an assistant for the Hokies … Mike Gottlieb is concluding his career as Towson head coach after 30 seasons. Gottlieb, who played two years as a first baseman for Towson, spent seven years as an assistant coach before taking over the program in 1988.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse

Lesley Graham stepped down as head coach of the women’s team at Saint Leo to pursue other opportunities. Graham was the first head coach for the team, which started competition in 2012.

Softball

La Salle head coach Ron Shoemaker will not return for the 2017-18 season … Flagler head coach Kristen Overton is stepping down after nine seasons to spend more time with her young family … Saint Martin’s assistant coach Jim Peterson was named interim head coach … Concordia (New York) promoted assistant coach Jaime Lorenzo to head coach. Lorenzo played for Concordia from 2008 to 2011 under Kathy Laoutaris, who recently was named athletics director. Laoutaris stepped down as head coach at the end of the season after 23 years.

Men’s and women’s tennis

Tennessee promoted associate head coach Chris Woodruff to head coach of its men’s team. Woodruff, who won an NCAA Division I singles championship as a Tennessee student-athlete in 1993, has been a member of the coaching staff since his professional tennis career ended in 2002.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Bob Crank is stepping down as head coach of the women’s team at Quincy to accept the top assistant coaching position at Southeast Missouri State. Graduate assistant coach Abby Moser was elevated to head coach.

Venkat Reddy was named chancellor at Colorado-Colorado Springs. Reddy, who has served as interim chancellor since February, has worked at the school in various capacities for 25 years … Rahmat Shoureshi will become Portland State’s president in August. He takes over for Wim Wiewel, who is stepping down after nine years as president to serve on Portland State’s faculty. Shoureshi most recently held the position of interim president at New York Institute of Technology … Lincoln (Pennsylvania) selected Brenda Allen as university president. Allen, who is an alumna of Lincoln, most recently was provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Winston-Salem State … Sally Roush was appointed interim president of San Diego State. Roush, who retired from the university as senior vice president in 2013 but has remained involved on campus, will begin July 1 … Kelly Damphousse was appointed chancellor of Arkansas State. Damphousse, who takes his new post July 1, has served as a dean or interim dean at Oklahoma since 2013 … Laurie A. Carter was selected to take over as president of Shippensburg, effective Aug. 7. Carter most recently has been executive vice president and university counsel at Eastern Kentucky.

Western Oregon named Curtis Campbell as its new athletics director. Campbell, who has 17 years of experience in college athletics, most recently served as director of athletics at Tuskegee … LIU Post elevated Debbie DeJong to director of athletics and recreation.  DeJong had served as LIU Post’s senior associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator since 2013. She takes over for Bryan Collins, who led the LIU Post athletics department for 11 years and will remain as the school’s head football coach … Colorado Mesa selected Kris Mort and Bryan Rooks to jointly fill the role of athletics director. Mort and Rooks, both Colorado Mesa graduates and former student-athletes, have served as associate athletics directors since 2007  … Clarion elevated Wendy Snodgrass to director of athletics, a position she held on an interim basis since July 2016. She is the first woman to be athletics director at the school … Steven Aicinena will retire as Texas Permian Basin’s athletics director in June. Aicinena, who will continue as a professor in the kinesiology department, became athletics director when the school started intercollegiate athletics in 1995 … Fort Lewis Director of Athletics Gary Hunter will step down Sept. 1 after six years in his position … Michael Alford was named associate vice president and director of athletics at Central Michigan. Alford, who will start July 3, currently is senior associate athletics director for administration and development at Oklahoma … Gene Doris, after 23 years as Fairfield’s athletics director, has announced he will leave the position. Doris will remain at Fairfield, reporting directly to the president’s office, during a national search for his replacement. Fairfield sports competed in 35 NCAA postseason tournaments under Doris’ leadership … Erin Kido was named interim vice president and athletics director at Eastern Michigan. Kido is in her third year as senior associate athletics director for administration at Eastern Michigan … Louisiana-Monroe Director of Athletics Brian Wickstrom will not seek to renew his contract, which runs through June 30. He has led the Louisiana-Monroe athletics department for four years … Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby will retire in June 2018. Roby will conclude more than 15 years working at the university, including 10 as the director of athletics and recreation.

Pittsburgh hired Christian Spears as deputy director of athletics for external affairs. Spears, the deputy director of athletics at Eastern Michigan the past three years, recently had been appointed interim athletics director at Eastern Michigan … Baylor hired Marcus Sedberry as senior associate athletics director for student-athlete success. The athletics department also promoted Callie Schrank to associate athletics director and athletics chief of staff and elevated Cody Hall to associate athletics director for financial services … Nate Sagan, assistant athletics director for media relations at Alaska Anchorage, will step down Sept. 1 … Houston promoted the following athletics administrators: Jeff Collier to senior associate athletics director for finance and human resources; Lauren DuBois to senior associate athletics director for compliance, academics and financial aid; Bruce Gregory to senior associate athletics director for event operations, facilities and grounds; T.J. Meagher to senior associate athletics director for capital projects; and David Bassity to senior associate athletics director for strategic communications and digital media … Laird Veatch was named executive associate athletics director for internal affairs at Florida. Veatch has more than 23 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, most recently as deputy athletics director at Kansas State … Arizona State has hired Natesh “Tesh” Rao as senior associate athletics director. Rao is a former high-ranking officer and aviator in the U.S. Navy and also served as an executive with Starbucks … Travis Whipple is the new deputy director of athletics at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Whipple formerly served as assistant athletics director for external operations at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Assistant athletics director

Saint Augustine's has hired Tara Davenport as assistant athletics director for compliance. Davenport formerly served as compliance coordinator at Bowie State from 2012 to 2016 … Steve Murray was named assistant athletics director at Macalester and will handle NCAA compliance for the school’s 21 intercollegiate athletics programs, as well as internal operations and physical education. Murray has been Macalester’s head strength and conditioning coach for the past nine years.

Baseball

Dave Serrano will resign as Tennessee’s head coach at the end of the season. Serrano took over at Tennessee in June 2011. Assistant coach Larry Simcox will serve as interim head coach … Sam Carel resigned as head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State after four seasons, citing personal reasons.

Men’s basketball

Michael Bahl has been named head coach at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Bahl previously was an assistant coach in the program for seven seasons … Colorado Christian selected Jeff Hironaka as its head coach. Hironaka’s last head coaching position was with Seattle Pacific from 2002 to 2009.

Women’s basketball assistants

Appalachian State added Cristina Centeno as an assistant. She formerly was an assistant at Le Moyne.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field

Josh Lopitz was named head coach of the men’s and women’s programs at West Virginia Wesleyan. Lopitz was a track and field athlete at West Virginia Wesleyan from 2013 to 2016 before serving as an assistant coach for a season.

Men’s and women’s golf

Assumption announced that Brandon Parker resigned as men’s and women’s head coach after two seasons. Parker led the men’s team to the 2016 NCAA Division II regionals … Jim Kubinski will not return as the Notre Dame head men’s coach after 13 seasons. The Irish won four Big East championships under Kubinski … In a reorganization of the leadership structure of the men’s and women’s programs, Delaware promoted Patty Post to director of golf programs. She recently completed her sixth year as head coach of the women’s team. Mike Keogh, who had been head men’s coach for the past 16 years in a part-time role, moves into a full-time position as assistant men’s and women’s golf coach and recruiting coordinator … Daemen selected Kyle Harman as head men’s coach. Harman played for the Daemen team from 2011 to 2013.

Gymnastics

Former Georgia gymnast Courtney Kupets Carter was named head coach of the women’s team at her alma mater. Carter helped the U.S. team win a silver medal and claimed a bronze on the uneven bars in the 2004 Olympics. In her senior year at Georgia in 2009, Carter led her team to its fifth straight NCAA title, and she won the all-around, bars, beam and floor individual competitions.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey

Saint Anselm selected Jim Tortorella as men’s head coach. Tortorella formerly served 16 seasons at Colby, where he became the school’s winningest head coach with a 230-138-33 record … Franklin Pierce named Shaun Millerick head coach of its men’s program.

Rowing

Zenon Babraj has resigned as Southern California’s women’s head coach and director of rowing after 15 seasons. Babraj twice was the Pac-12 Conference Women’s Rowing Coach of the Year.

Men’s and women’s soccer

Jason Carlson was hired as head coach of Florida Southern men’s program. Carlson spent the past four seasons as head coach at Upper Iowa … South Dakota Mines promoted Andrew Conniff to head coach of the men’s program. Conniff has worked as assistant coach for the past two seasons … Chestnut Hill announced the hiring of Zack Ssebatindira as men’s head coach. Ssebatindira formerly served as an assistant coach at Philadelphia U. … Rob Walker will step away as head coach of the women’s team at Saint Martin’s and remain as full-time head coach for the men’s team. Walker has served as head coach for both teams since 2006, when he started the programs at the club level and, one year later, moved them into the Great Northwest Athletic Conference … Nate Lie, associate head coach at Cincinnati, was hired as head coach of the women’s soccer team at Xavier … Meagan Anderson was named head women’s coach at Oklahoma Christian. Anderson was a standout player in the Oklahoma Christian program and has been a successful high school coach since 2013 … Sean Kenny announced his retirement after serving as head men’s coach at Concordia (New York) for the past four years. Kenny was in his second run as head coach after previously leading the program from 1987 to 1993.

Minot State head coach Bill Triplett is retiring. Triplett spent 10 years as head coach of his alma mater … Betsy Dean resigned as head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville after compiling a 66-84-1 record in three seasons … New Mexico will not retain head coach Erica Beach. Beach has been head coach of the Lobos for seven seasons.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Youngstown State named Ryan Purdy head coach of the women’s team. Purdy previously served as an assistant coach at Minnesota.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Wisconsin-Parkside named Dominic Yoder as the women’s head coach. Yoder previously served as head coach for 10 seasons at Northern Michigan … New Jersey City promoted Jorge Rodriguez to head coach of the men’s team. Rodriguez had been the assistant men’s and women’s coach since 2015. Robert Cole, previously head men’s and women’s coach, will become director of volleyball operations and continue as head coach of the women’s team … Jennifer Lopez was named interim head coach of the women’s program at North Dakota State. Lopez played for the Bison and has served as an assistant coach the past two seasons. She replaces Kari Thompson, who has taken over as head women’s coach at Southern Illinois after leading North Dakota State to a pair of NCAA tournaments in seven seasons.

Conferences

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference hired Chris Kautza as assistant commissioner for external relations/marketing. Kautza spent the past four years at Winona State as assistant athletics director for events and ticketing.

Deaths

Bob Patterson, a former Memphis athletics director and assistant football coach, died May 15 at age 84. Patterson played football at then-Memphis State in 1953 and 1954.

Ed Welch, president at Charleston (West Virginia) since 1989, has announced he will retire following the 2017-18 academic year … Neil Albert Salonen, president at Bridgeport since 2000, will retire in June 2018 … Sandra K. Woodley is taking over as president at Texas Permian Basin. Woodley is the former president of the University of Louisiana System … South Dakota Mines has named Jan A. Puszynski as interim president. Puszynski replaces Heather Wilson, who resigned after she was confirmed as U.S. Air Force secretary … Lake Superior State named David Roland Finley as acting president. This past year, Finley served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, as well as dean of the schools of engineering and business.

Greenville promoted Tom Ackerman to athletics director. Catholic promoted Brielle Crites to assistant athletics director for business. Crites, who played basketball at Catholic, has been on the coaching staff of the women’s basketball team since her graduation in 2012 and most recently served as administrative assistant for athletics … Ohio State women’s gymnastics coach Carey Fagan will step away from her coaching position to become assistant athletics director for sport administration and student-athlete well-being for the Buckeyes. She has been head coach for 13 years.

Napoli had been director of golf at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey … Barry Harwell is stepping down after six seasons as head coach of West Georgia’s men’s and women’s teams … Mike Larkin, who played golf at Towson from 2002 to 2005, was named head men’s coach at his alma mater. He takes over for Brian Yaniger, who is retiring after 20 years as head coach. Larkin will leave his position as an assistant golf professional at The Golf Club of Purchase in New York.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics

North Carolina State named Kim Landrus head coach of its women’s team. Landrus was head coach of the women’s team at Illinois for the past seven years and a member of the coaching staff for 15 years.

Softball

Angela Corliss resigned as head coach at Western New Mexico after six seasons. Corliss is a member of the school’s athletics hall of fame as a player … Galen Struve has announced his retirement as head coach at Rockhurst. Struve has been the program’s only coach since its inception in 2005 ... Rick Noren has resigned as head coach at Saint Martin’s after seven years in charge. He compiled a 210-145-1 record … Georgia Tech will not renew the contract of head coach Shelly Hoerner. Hoerner has been head coach of the Yellow Jackets for four seasons.

Bridgeport promoted Richard “Doc” Ludemann to head men’s and women’s swimming coach and aquatics director. Ludemann was Bridgeport’s assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.

Sean Kenny, Concordia (New York) men’s head coach, is retiring. Kenny finished the fourth season of his second stint as head coach in the fall. He previously was head coach at the school from 1987 to 1993 … Matt Akins, head men’s coach, assistant athletics director and compliance director at Barton, has resigned to pursue an opportunity in the state of New York. He served as head coach at Barton for 10 years.

Jeff Brown resigned as head coach of LSU’s men’s team. Brown, an alumnus of the program, coached LSU to a 312-205 overall mark during 20 years as head coach … Mark Guilbeau, head coach of Virginia’s women’s team, is resigning after 12 seasons.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball

Daemen named Don Gleason as head coach of its new men’s team, which will begin competition during the 2018-19 academic year. Gleason was an assistant coach for Daemen’s women’s team last season … Coker appointed Julia Rafalowski as head coach of the men’s team. Rafalowski, who will continue her duties as head coach of Coker’s women’s team, has served as interim head coach of the men’s team since March 24.

Deaths

Kaelin Kersh, who ran distance events and relays for Mississippi State track and field, was killed May 7 in an auto accident. Kersh, 22, graduated two days earlier with a degree in kinesiology and health fitness studies … Lake Superior State President Thomas Pleger died May 7 after undergoing brain surgery. Pleger, 48, started his presidency in July 2014.  He also was a licensed archaeologist whose work centered on the Upper Great Lakes region and the use of copper technology by prehistoric American Indians … John Barker Carpenter, who coached the Rider men’s basketball team to 292 wins from 1966 to 1989, died April 14. He was 86.

Chancellors and presidents — Fairmont State President Maria Rose will retire June 30. Rose, a Fairmont State graduate, has been president since 2012 … Oakland appointed Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz as president. Pescovitz, who has served as senior vice president and U.S. medical leader for Lilly Bio-Medicines at Eli Lilly and Co. since 2014, will begin July 1 at Oakland … Chris Maggio was appointed president of Northwestern State after serving as acting president since Jan. 1.

Athletics directors — Christa Racine, head women’s soccer coach at Drew since 1994 and associate athletics director since 2009, was named director of athletics. Racine will continue coaching after assuming her new post July 1 … Jim Schmidt will retire as director of athletics at Illinois-Chicago on Aug. 1. Schmidt, who has led the department for 22 years, has spent 36 years overall with the Flames … Concordia-Moorhead hired Jeff Bretherton as its first full-time athletics director. Bretherton most recently has worked as director of development for the Heart of the Rockies Initiative in Missoula, Montana. He previously was a senior development officer at Saint John’s (Minnesota) … Richmond Athletics Director Keith Gill, who has been in his position since 2012, is stepping down for personal reasons. David Walsh, deputy athletics director, will serve as interim athletics director … Tim Spicer, athletics director at Colorado Mesa since 2013, is leaving the university. Spicer moved to Colorado Mesa after nine years at Colorado School of Mines … Stockton named Kevin McHugh athletics director. McHugh, who has worked 10 years as director of athletics at Bates, will begin his new job July 1 … Longtime West Liberty women’s basketball coach Lynn Ullom was named athletics director after serving as co-athletics director on an interim basis during the 2016-17 academic year. Ullom wraps up 26 years as head coach at West Liberty, where he averaged more than 20 wins a season.

Associate athletics directors — Southern Utah promoted Chief Operating Officer Andrew Parrish to deputy athletics director … McKendree named Anthony Francis as associate director of athletics for compliance. Francis formerly served in the compliance office at California Baptist … Tony Hernandez has been named deputy director of athletics at Texas Tech. Hernandez has served in athletics administration at Miami (Florida), his alma mater, since 1998, including most recently as deputy athletics director … Texas Tech added Greg Glaus as senior associate athletics director for academic services. Glaus previously was senior associate athletics director at Kent State … Chad Weiberg was named deputy director of athletics at his alma mater, Oklahoma State. Weiberg has served in a similar role at Texas Tech for the past two years.

Assistant athletics directors — Jon McCue was named assistant athletics director for communication and events at Stevens Institute of Technology. McCue most recently was assistant sports information coordinator at Kean … Doug Allvine and Simit Shah, both alumni of Georgia Tech, are assuming new positions at their alma mater. Allvine has been named the assistant athletics director for innovation and Shah the assistant athletics director for brand and ideation.

Men’s basketball assistants — Jake DeLaney will be a full-time assistant coach for Covenant. DeLaney, a 2015 graduate of Covenant, played for the Scots for three seasons before serving as a student assistant in his senior year.

Women’s basketball — Gayle Coats Fulks was selected as head coach at Davidson. She has been an assistant at Wake Forest for the past five years … Long Beach State hired Jeff Cammon as head coach. Cammon formerly served as a Long Beach State assistant coach for five years before departing for assistant positions at California and Colorado … Yolanda Moore, who played basketball at Ole Miss and in the WNBA, was hired as head coach at Clark Atlanta. Moore previously coached for two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana … Colorado State-Pueblo hired Curtis Loyd as head coach. Loyd most recently coached at Louisiana State University Shreveport, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics program, leading the team to a 22-10 record … Karen Barefoot was named head coach at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Barefoot spent the past six seasons at Old Dominion … New Mexico State hired Brooke Atkinson as head coach. Atkinson, who spent the past three seasons on staff at Colorado State, was an assistant for eight seasons with the Aggies from 2003 to 2011 … Kyle Cooper is the new head coach at West Liberty. Cooper recently completed his fourth season on staff, where he served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.

Football — Quincy head coach Tom Pajic resigned to become director of player personnel for Temple football. Pajic has been head coach of the Hawks since 2012.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse — Brianne Tierney was hired to start a women’s team at Kent State. Tierney previously started the program at Lebanon Valley. Most recently, she was an assistant coach and director of camps and clinics at Lafayette … John Paul, head coach of Michigan’s men’s team, and Jennifer Ulehla, head coach of Michigan’s women’s team, will not return next season. Paul led the team’s transition from the club level to a varsity sport in 2012. Ulehla was hired in 2011 to start the women’s team.

Softball — Appalachian State announced it will not renew the contract of head coach Janice Savage, who held the position for three seasons … Bluefield State hired Megan Dillion as head coach of the softball and women’s volleyball teams. Dillion served as interim head coach for both sports this past academic year.

Men’s and women’s tennis — Tennessee men’s head coach Sam Winterbotham was relieved of his duties.

Men’s and women’s water polo — McKendree hired Ryan Hall as head coach of the men's program. The program, which began as a club team in 2016, will transition to a varsity-level program this year. Hall spent three years as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams at Redlands.

Wrestling — Alex Tirapelle announced his resignation as Pennsylvania’s head coach after three seasons.

Presidents and chancellors — Indiana State President Daniel J. Bradley announced he will step down effective January 2018. He has been president since 2008 … Aminta Hawkins Breaux was named president of Bowie State. Breaux, who has served as vice president for advancement at Millersville for nearly three years, will take her new post July 1.

Athletics directors — Derek Zander was named acting athletics director at Iowa Wesleyan. Zander is an assistant athletics director and compliance officer, as well as head baseball coach … Dennis Dunn, Louisiana College athletics director and head football coach, is stepping down to accept the head coaching position at Pineville High School in Pineville, Louisiana … Babson appointed Mike Lynch as senior director of athletics and athletics advancement. Lynch has served as interim director of athletics and recreation since July.

Associate athletics directors — Baylor announced a number of additions to its external relations department. Mitch Mann was named associate athletics director for resource development. Jovan Overshown was named associate athletics director for engagement. Andrew Lentz was selected as associate athletics director for branding and creative services … James Madison hired Justin Jannuzzi as senior associate athletics director for development. He previously worked as senior director of major gifts at Duke.

Assistant athletics directors — Baylor added two assistant athletics directors to its external relations department. Cody Gougler was named assistant athletics director for annual fund in the Baylor Bear Foundation, and Ryan Eklund was named assistant athletics director for fan engagement … Meredith selected Fiona Barkley as assistant athletics director for advancement and external relations beginning in August. Barkley will resign as head women’s volleyball coach.

Coaches

Men’s basketball — Stanislaus State appointed Paul Trevor as co-head coach. He will join Larry Reynolds, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, in leading the Warriors. Trevor coached at San Francisco State the past seven years. San Francisco State has promoted assistant Vince Inglima to interim coach for the 2017-18 season … B.J. Foster, who served as interim head coach at Cal State San Marcos for the 2016-17 season, was named head coach. Foster arrived at Cal State San Marcos in 2013 as an assistant coach … Paul Mills was named head coach at Oral Roberts. Mills most recently was an assistant coach at Baylor.

Women’s basketball — Trisha Stafford-Odom was named head coach at North Carolina Central. A former Women’s National Basketball Association player, Stafford-Odom most recently coached three seasons at Concordia (California) … Central Washington promoted assistant coach Randi Richardson to head coach.

Field hockey — Limestone head coach Kim Keever resigned. Assistant coach Jessica Mulhern was named interim head coach. Keever, who joined Limestone in 2009 as an assistant coach, became head coach in 2015.

Men’s and women’s golf — DePaul men’s coach Betty Kaufmann is retiring after the 2016-17 season. Kaufmann is in her 19th season as head coach of the Blue Demons … Carrie Parnaby will leave her post as head coach of the women’s team at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has led the program for the past nine seasons.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey — Trevor Large, a member of the Canisius coaching staff for the past three seasons, was promoted to head coach of the men’s program.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse — Converse promoted Sammy McCarrick to head coach of the women’s team after Megan Smith stepped down as she continues her fight against cancer. McCarrick became assistant coach at the beginning of the 2016-17 season and was acting head coach for the majority of the season.

Men’s and women’s tennis — Lindenwood men’s and women’s head coach Bill Vahle is retiring. Vahle just completed his 12th season leading both programs.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball — Nolan Albrecht was named head coach of the Belmont Abbey men’s program. Albrecht, who previously served as assistant coach of the women’s program, has helped out with the men’s team since March … MacKenzie Aries, assistant coach of the Meredith women’s team, will become interim head coach beginning in August.

Wrestling — Delaware Valley promoted assistant coach Jim Wertman to head coach after Steve Cantrell resigned to focus on his duties as director of athletics. Wertman has been on the Aggies staff for five years. Cantrell was head coach for six years … Charlie Pipher was named head coach at Western State. Pipher, who competed for Western State as a student-athlete, has been interim head coach since March and assistant coach since 2011.

Presidents and chancellors — Baylor selected Linda A. Livingstone as president. Livingstone, dean and professor of management at George Washington’s business school, will begin June 1 at Baylor … Daryl Burckel was named president of McNeese. Burckel, an accounting professor at McNeese and a former department head, earned two degrees from McNeese and played football for the Cowboys … Kristina M. Johnson was named chancellor of the State University of New York system. Johnson is the founder and chief executive officer of Cube Hydro Partners, which develops hydroelectric generation facilities. She served as undersecretary of energy during President Barack Obama’s administration … Paine selected Jerry L. Hardee to become president. Hardee previously served as president of Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina and has been an administrator at three schools in the University System of Georgia … Limestone President Walt Griffin announced he will retire in December. He has led Limestone since 1992 … Mark R. Nemec was named president of Fairfield. Nemec, currently a dean at Chicago, also will join the politics department at Fairfield as a professor within the arts and sciences college.

Athletics directors — Principia hired Pete Paciorek as director of athletics. Paciorek was the head baseball coach and an assistant athletics director at Principia from 2006 to 2011 … Long Beach State selected Andy Fee as athletics director. Fee spent the past seven years as deputy athletics director and chief development officer at UC Santa Barbara … Moravian promoted Mary Beth Spirk to director of athletics and recreation. Spirk, associate athletics director and 30-year head coach of the Greyhounds women’s basketball team, will continue in her coaching position … Roger Williams announced Dave Kemmy, director of athletics, intramurals and recreation, is stepping down to become director of conferences. He also will assist with alumni relations within the division of advancement.

Associate athletics directors — Iowa promoted Barbara Burke to deputy director of athletics. Burke started at Iowa last summer as senior associate athletics director for sport administration and event management … Derita Ratcliffe was named senior associate athletics director for Arkansas. Ratcliffe most recently was senior associate athletics director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham … College Football Playoff Chief Financial Officer Reid Sigmon is joining Tennessee as executive associate athletics director and chief operating officer.

Assistant athletics directors — Grambling hired Tiffani-Dawn Sykes as assistant athletics director for compliance. Sykes, who earned her master’s from Grambling in 2010, most recently spent four years as the NCAA eligibility specialist for Norfolk State.

Trakh, who coached the past six seasons at New Mexico State, previously was head coach at Southern California from 2005 to 2009 … Saint Anselm head coach Julie Plant is stepping down. Plant, who was named head coach in 2013, has a record of 61-49 with the Hawks … UTEP appointed Kevin Baker as head coach. Football assistants — Erik Campbell was named passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Delaware. Campbell, who played football at Michigan, spent 14 years on the coaching staff at his alma mater and most recently was wide receivers coach at UConn.

Men’s and women’s golf — Appalachian State men’s golf coach Bill Dicus will retire at the end of the 2016-17 season. Dicus has been head coach of the men’s golf program for 22 years and also coached the women’s program for 17 seasons … Clay Homan is retiring after 14 seasons as head coach of the men’s team at his alma mater, Mississippi State.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics — Debbie Yohman, who led Pittsburgh’s women’s program for more than three decades, announced her retirement … Sarah Brown, head coach of the Eastern Michigan women’s team, has accepted the same position at Penn State. Brown spent one season at Eastern Michigan.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey — Josh Brandwene, head coach of the women’s team at Penn State, is retiring. Brandwene was the first head coach of the program, which began play as a varsity sport in 2012-13 … Mel Pearson was named Michigan’s head men’s coach. Pearson, who previously served 23 seasons as an assistant coach for the Wolverines, most recently was head coach at Michigan Tech for six years … Niagara named Jason Lammers head coach. Lammers is head coach and general manager of the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the U.S. Hockey League.

Women’s rowing — Boban Rankovic is resigning as head coach at Barry at the end of the season. Rankovic, whose 2015 and 2016 teams captured the Division II national championship, is returning to his native Serbia … Christine Drasba was named head coach at Sarah Lawrence.

Men’s and women’s soccer — Kacey White resigned as head coach of the women’s team at Xavier to accept a coaching position with U.S. Soccer. White was hired at Xavier in December 2016 … South Dakota Mines men’s head coach Jordan Kadlec resigned after two years in the post … The University of New England named Carly Gettler head coach of the women’s team. Gettler replaces Heather Davis, who is being promoted to associate director of athletics … Tim Hall, head coach of the Point Loma women’s program, will retire from coaching at the end of the 2017 season. He will continue teaching and will become the athletics department chaplain in January.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving — Tennessee assistant coach Bret Lundgaard was named head coach of the Princeton women’s program. Lundgaard also is currently a USA Swimming national team coach … Jim Henry, who has led Yale’s women’s team for the past five seasons, was named head coach of the men’s team and also will continue to coach the women’s squad. Henry replaces Tim Wise, who stepped down after serving as head coach of the men’s team for the past seven years. Wise was an assistant coach before taking the top post … Ursuline hired Matt Cook as head coach of its women’s team … Chris Maiello was named men’s and women’s head coach at UConn. Maiello led the men’s and women’s programs at North Dakota the past four years … Wyoming assistant coach Dave Denniston was promoted to head coach of the men’s and women’s program. He has been an assistant for two years.

Men’s and women’s tennis — Terri Sisk is stepping down as head coach of the women's team at Tulane after nine seasons at the helm … Eastern Michigan announced Ryan Ray will not be returning as head coach of the women’s team. Ray led the program for the past 11 years.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball — Paul Dill has stepped down as head coach of the men’s team at MIT but will remain in his position as the women’s head coach. Mike Coniglione, who has been an assistant with the men’s and women’s teams at MIT for the past two seasons, was promoted to head coach of the men’s team.

Conferences

The Capital Athletic Conference hired Jeff Ligney as commissioner. Ligney, who most recently was interim commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will begin work July 1 … The Colonial Athletic Association hired Shawn Murphy as associate commissioner for men’s basketball. Murphy spent the past 15 years with the Big East, where he has served as assistant commissioner for men’s basketball operations since 2013 … The American Collegiate Athletic Association hired Jon J. Martin as associate commissioner for communications. The American Collegiate Athletic Association is a newly formed NCAA Division III conference that will begin official operations in September.
