Athletics directors − Jackson Stava, who worked the past 11 years at Azusa Pacific, was hired as athletics director at Seattle Pacific … Mansfield named Chaelim Nellis interim director of athletics. Nellis was named assistant director of athletics in October 2015 … John Wildhack was named director of athletics at his alma mater, Syracuse. Wildhack, a veteran leader at ESPN, has served as the network’s executive vice president for programming and production since January 2014 … Jessica Ott has been named Alverno’s director of athletics and head basketball coach. Ott previously was at Milwaukee School of Engineering, where she was twice named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year while serving as the assistant director of athletics since 2009 and head basketball coach and senior woman administrator since 2002 … Babson Director of Athletics and Recreation Josh MacArthur announced he was stepping down from his position after 10 years. During his tenure, the athletics department’s full-time staff increased by 66 percent and the department’s budget doubled … Les Robinson agreed to serve as Lander’s interim athletics director. After a career that spanned nearly 50 years in college athletics, Robinson retired as athletics director at The Citadel in 2008 … Penn State-Abington appointed Deb Solfaro as director of athletics, intramurals and recreation. Most recently, Solfaro served as director of athletics at Mansfield … Arkansas-Fort Smith hired Curtis Janz as director of athletics. Janz has served the past eight years as director of athletics at Oklahoma Christian … St. John’s (New York) appointed Associate Vice President for Athletics Kathy Meehan as interim athletics director … Missouri Athletics Director Mack Rhoades was appointed vice president and director of athletics at Baylor. 

Associate athletics directors − Washington hired Roy Shick as senior associate director of athletics. Shick, who served as Washington’s associate director of athletics for advancement from 2008 to 2014, spent the past two years as senior associate director of athletics at Texas … Colgate promoted Ann-Marie Guglieri to chief of staff and Jamie Mitchell to associate athletics director. Guglieri, who has been Colgate’s senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator, is in her ninth year at the university. Mitchell manages Colgate’s event management and facilities … Chris Ferris was named senior associate athletics director for sales, marketing and communications at Colorado State. Ferris had been Pittsburgh’s executive associate athletics director for external operations since 2014 … Coker hired Jennifer Bell as associate athletics director for internal operations. Bell spent the past 18 years at fellow South Atlantic Conference school, Anderson (South Carolina) … Wyoming promoted Phil Wille to senior associate athletics director for internal operations and James Wilkerson to associate athletics director for business operations … Brent Heaberlin, associate athletics director of Lenoir-Rhyne, has been promoted to deputy athletics director … Greg Hotchkiss has been named Columbia’s associate athletics director for athletics communications and public relations … West Virginia hired Greg Featherston as associate athletics director of governance and compliance … Bethany Cordell was named associate athletics director for marketing at her alma mater, Montana State … Wingate promoted Hugh Patton to associate director of athletics media relations. Assistant athletics directors − Dawn Boltin, Saint Leo’s athletics business manager for the past three years, has been promoted to assistant athletics director for business operations … Colgate promoted Angela Marathakis to assistant athletics director. Marathakis oversees Colgate’s student-athlete academic services … Jim Knight, who worked for 29 years in daily newspapers, including as managing editor and sports editor at The Ann Arbor (Michigan) News, was appointed assistant athletics director for communications and marketing at his alma mater, Central Michigan. Most recently, Knight was a lecturer in Central Michigan’s journalism department … Chuck McGill, West Virginia’s four-time Sportswriter of the Year who has worked in the newspaper industry for 15 years, has been named Marshall’s assistant athletics director for fan/donor engagement and communications … Matt Whiting joined Central Arkansas as assistant athletics director for development … Peter Prigge was elevated to assistant athletics director for compliance at Wyoming … Wes Stephens has been promoted to assistant athletics director for athletic training and sport performance at Cedarville. Stephens, who has been the head athletic trainer since 2014, oversees the care of student-athletes for the 16 Yellow Jacket sports and cheerleading … Ryan McLane was named assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions at Utah State. McLane, who previously spent two years at Utah State, returns after a three-year stint at VCU … South Dakota Mines hired Brian Hardy as assistant athletics director of sports medicine. Hardy served in the same role at Colorado-Colorado Springs for the past 12 years … Adam Weyer has been named Lander’s assistant athletics director for sports medicine. Weyer previously was head athletic trainer at nearby Erskine … Concordia (California) named Melissa Jacobi assistant athletics director for external operations and development. She has served since June 2013 as the athletics associate/facilities leasing manager at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, California … Franklin Pierce hired Matthew Cerullo as assistant director of athletics communication.

Coaches

Baseball − Jason Hawkins accepted the position of head coach at San Jose State. Hawkins previously was an assistant for Utah and UC Santa Barbara … DePauw head coach Jake Martin is resigning to return to his alma mater, Wabash, as head coach. Martin worked six years as an assistant at DePauw before being named interim head coach in August 2009 and head coach in April 2010 … Jim Foster was announced as Army West Point’s head coach. Foster has 14 years of collegiate coaching experience, including nine as a head coach at Rhode Island. Franklin Pierce head coach Jayson King has resigned to become associate head coach for Army West Point. Franklin Pierce appointed assistant coach Mike Chambers as interim head coach for the 2016-17 academic year.

Men’s basketball − Post named Marc Kuntz head coach. Kuntz spent the previous four years as the assistant coach at New Hampshire … Terrence Stewart has been tabbed as head coach at Georgian Court after four seasons at the helm of Immaculata … Bluefield State head coach Jamaal Jackson was named head coach of his alma mater, Kentucky State. Jackson started his coaching career at Kentucky State as a student assistant coach during the 2000-01 season and later became a full-time assistant from 2004 to 2008 … Northwestern Oklahoma State selected Shawn Dirden as head coach. Dirden spent two years at North Dakota, where he was an assistant for the Fighting Hawks … New York Institute of Technology hired former Iona standout Kevin Hamilton as head coach. Hamilton most recently has served as an Amateur Athletic Union director and international scout … Washburn head coach Bob Chipman announced his 41st season and his 38th as head coach will be his final one. Chipman will retire at the end of the 2016-17 season. He ranks third among active NCAA Division II coaches with 788 career wins.

 

Men’s basketball assistants − Delaware head coach Martin Ingelsby added former Notre Dame teammate Torrian Jones as an assistant coach. Jones comes to Newark after spending the past two years as an academic counselor for Notre Dame student-athletes. He also served as the color commentator for Notre Dame men’s basketball broadcasts.

Women’s basketball − Janet Raymer was named head coach at her alma mater, Chadron State. Raymer served as a coaching assistant for the team the past two years … Michael Whitling was named head coach at Mansfield. Whitling served as an assistant coach with Gannon from 2013 to 2016 … Kentucky State promoted associate head coach Terrance Slater to head coach … Saint Mary’s (Indiana) promoted assistant Melissa Makielski to head coach. She has been on the coaching staff since the 2009-10 season.

Women’s basketball assistants − Eastern Michigan hired Isaiah Walton as director of basketball operations. A 2016 graduate of Eastern Michigan, Walton previously served as head student manager for the past four years … Bemidji State added Jamie Majerowicz to the staff as an assistant coach. Majerowicz previously was the top assistant at Loras.

Beach volleyball and men’s and women’s volleyball − Shannon Gerencir has been named head coach of Lock Haven’s women’s team. Gerencir spent the past 14 seasons at West Virginia State head coach.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field − Former Murray State assistant coach Rochelle Black was hired as director of track and field and cross country at Lincoln Memorial … Post hired Rick Hammer as head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach. Hammer spent the previous three years as the head cross country and assistant track and field coach at Edinboro … Chowan named Rick Heckler head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs. He also will continue his current position of head women’s bowling coach. Heckler previously coached Chowan’s men’s cross country team for three seasons and the women’s for one … Karen Godlock, head coach of Barton’s men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs for the past six years, resigned in order to pursue other career opportunities.

Field hockey − Keuka hired Tessa Knapp as head coach. Knapp served as an assistant coach at SUNY Oneonta for the past two years.

Football assistants – The University of New England hired Kenny Treschitta as defensive coordinator. Treschitta was coach of the Western Connecticut State secondary and safeties for the 2015 season.

Men’s and women’s golf − TL Brown was hired as California Baptist’s men’s coach. Brown spent the past nine years at Chico State, where his teams finished as runner-up at the Division II Men’s Golf Championships in 2016 and 2012 … Terri Connealy, head coach of the women’s team at Chadron State, announced her retirement after six years in the job … Tom Schreiner was announced as head coach of the Covenant men’s team. Schreiner takes over for Jack Belote, who left Covenant after two seasons to take the head coaching position at Millsaps … The Sage Colleges appointed Robert Verhayden as head coach of the men’s team. Verhayden already has been serving as the school’s men’s volleyball coach. In 2016, Verhayden was named the Skyline Conference Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year … Union (Tennessee) hired Clay Mallard to lead the men’s and women’s programs. Mallard, a 2011 graduate of Union, takes over for longtime coach Don Morris … Wayne State (Michigan) promoted Meredith Weaver to head coach of the women’s team. Weaver has served as associate head coach for the first two years of the Warrior women’s program … John Jordan, a former assistant coach for the Hofstra men’s team, has been named the head coach of the Hofstra women’s program. Jordan spent the spring 2016 season as head men’s coach at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York … South Dakota Mines hired Ryan Treptow as head coach of the women’s team. Treptow is also the assistant golf professional at Arrowhead Country Club in Rapid City … Point Loma hired Lance Hancock as head coach of the women’s program. He takes over for Noel Allen, who will transition into an assistant position to make more time for her family … Quincy hired George Schrage as head coach of the women’s program. Schrage is in his second year as the head PGA professional at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy, Illinois.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistants − Holy Cross hired Maddie Norton as an assistant coach for the women’s team. Norton spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Franklin Pierce.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse − Newberry promoted Rashelle McLellan to head coach of the women's team. McLellan joined the Wolves as associate head coach before the 2016 season and served as acting head coach for the season … Brianne Timony was named head coach at her alma mater, Chestnut Hill, after serving as interim coach for the 2016 season. Timony joined the coaching staff as an assistant before the 2015 season … Adams State’s men’s team will start the 2017 season with Keith Lindgren at the helm. Lindgren spent the past two seasons as head coach at Dallas … Julie Sargent, head coach of the DePauw women’s team for the past three seasons, is resigning to become assistant director of academic and membership affairs at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis … Natalie Bermudez was named head coach of the Felician women’s team. She replaces Angelica Gero, who resigned after one season. Bermudez served as an assistant on Gero’s staff for the program’s inaugural year of competition … Clare Gaeng is returning to Queens (North Carolina) as head women’s coach. Gaeng, a former assistant for the Royals, spent the past two seasons as head women’s coach at Lenoir-Rhyne … Shippensburg hired Nicole Miller as head coach of the women’s team. This is Miller’s first head coaching venture after having spent two years as an assistant coach at York (Pennsylvania) … Amanda Barnes, who has been an assistant on Duke’s women’s team for five years, has been named the first head coach of East Carolina’s women’s program.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants − Hofstra named Shanna Brady an assistant coach with the women’s team. Brady oversaw the defensive unit at LIU Post this past season.

Rowing − After 26 years as head coach, Keith Jefferson is parting ways with Seattle Pacific.

Men’s and women’s soccer − Lake Erie hired Irenna “Reni” Lawrence as head coach of the women’s team. Lawrence served as an assistant coach for the Storm during the 2015 season … After two seasons leading the Mountain Lions, Concord head women’s coach Amanda Malkiewicz accepted an assistant coaching position with East Tennessee State … Davis and Elkins hired Meghan Gill as head coach of the women’s program … Erin Egolf has been named interim head coach for the Illinois-Springfield women’s team. Egolf has been an assistant on the staff since completing her playing career for the Prairie Stars in 2012 … Former San Francisco State head coach Matt Barnes has been named head coach of the St. Mary’s (Texas) men’s team.

Softball − St. Edward’s promoted Meghan Mullin to head coach. Mullin has been the assistant coach at St. Edward’s for the past two seasons and was also a graduate assistant coach in 2011 and 2012 … Jessica Rayman was named head coach at Montana State Billings after spending the past five seasons as assistant coach at Washburn … Washington U. in St. Louis hired Michelle Venturella as head coach. For the past eight seasons, Venturella has served as head coach at Illinois-Chicago. Venturella replaces Leticia Pineda-Boutte, who resigned after leading the Bears the past 11 seasons … Dominican (California) hired Tori Nyberg as head coach. Nyberg, who played on the Stanford squad that finished third in the Women’s College World Series in 2001, most recently served as an assistant coach at Cal State Monterey Bay … Former Hawaii Hilo coach Callen Perreira is returning as head coach of the Vulcans. From 1990 to 2009, Perreira was coach at Hawaii Hilo, where he had 18 consecutive winning seasons … Jen Lapicki was named head coach at Holy Cross. Lapicki most recently was an assistant at Princeton.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving − Limestone hired Edward Gillie as head coach of the men’s and women’s teams. Gillie spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Vincent … Nova Southeastern announced that Ben Hewitt will be head coach of the men’s and women’s programs. A former assistant coach with the program, Hewitt returns to Nova Southeastern after serving three years as the women’s head coach at DePauw.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistants − Wingate alum Kevin Hennessy joined the university’s aquatics staff as an assistant coach. Hennessy also will serve as the lead coach for the Aqua-Dog club team … Washington U. in St. Louis hired Megan Sheets as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams.

Men’s and women’s tennis − After three seasons as head coach of the women’s team at Wentworth, Erin Phillips announced her resignation, due to commitments with her full-time job. Phillips, who also served as an assistant women’s basketball coach for the past five seasons, stepped down from that role, as well … Kacie Zuck was elevated to director of tennis at Albion, where she will lead the men’s and women’s programs. Zuck was an assistant coach at Albion for both teams during the past two seasons … Flagler promoted Rodrigo Puebla to head coach of the women’s team. Puebla joined the Saints as an assistant men’s and women’s coach in the summer of 2014.

Men’s and women’s water polo − After serving as San Jose State’s men’s assistant coach, Gabor Sarusi accepted the position as head coach of the university’s women’s team. Sarusi has head coaching experience at the high school and club levels … After coaching the women’s team for its first 12 years at Cal State Monterey Bay, Otters coach Gary Figueroa is stepping aside to pursue other opportunities.

Staff

Missouri S&T hired David Adamson, who was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at UTEP, as strength and conditioning coach … E.J. Kreis was named the first full-time head strength and conditioning coach at Chadron State. Kreis served the Eagle athletics programs in a graduate assistant role for the past two years while earning a master’s in sport management and will now assume full-time duties … Ohio Valley hired Cody Sole as strength and conditioning coach. Since 2012, Sole has assisted Ohio Valley’s wrestling program and also has worked as a freelance strength and conditioning coach … Franklin Pierce tabbed Makina Itchkavich-Levasseur as assistant athletic trainer and Marcus Williams as head strength and conditioning coach.

Conferences

The South Atlantic Conference named Kayla Adams director of internal operations and administration … Jon Levinson was selected as the Patriot League coordinator of women’s basketball officials. Levinson’s appointment comes after the retirement of longtime coordinator Renee Dorfman … The Western Athletic Conference hired Dave Yeast as coordinator of baseball umpires. Yeast, who served as NCAA national coordinator of baseball umpires from 1996 to 2008, recently concluded his first season as coordinator of baseball officiating for the Pac-12 and Big West conferences … The Missouri Valley Conference hired Ryan Davis as assistant commissioner for communications. Davis worked for the past decade as assistant commissioner for

communications at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Deaths

Miles Laboy, who played football for Wittenberg, died June 28, a day after a car accident near Anna, Ohio. Laboy, 18, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, had just completed his freshman year … Saint Leo men’s golfer Griffin Clark, 21, a member of the Lions’ 2016 NCAA Division II national championship team, died July 4 in a single-vehicle car accident in Chesterfield County, Virginia. A criminal justice major, Clark was in the final pairing during medal-match play at the national championships. He sealed the 3-2 victory by defeating his opponent, Kelley Sullivan of Chico State, by three strokes … William L. “Bill” Armstrong, president of Colorado Christian, died July 5 of cancer. He was 79. Armstrong had served as president since 2006.

Presidents and chancellors − Andrew Card announced he was stepping down as president of Franklin Pierce. Card previously served as chief of staff to President George W. Bush and was secretary of transportation in President George H. W. Bush’s administration. Kim Mooney, the provost and vice president for academic affairs of Franklin Pierce, was named the first woman to lead the institution … University of the Sciences named Dr. Paul Katz president. Katz was founding dean of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

Athletics directors College of Charleston Athletics Director Joe Hull announced he will step down at the end of his contract, which runs through December 2016. Under Hull’s leadership, which began in 2007, the Cougars have claimed 42 conference championships in 12 different sports as well as national titles in sailing and equestrian … Bluefield State appointed John D. Lewis as athletics director. Lewis previously was the associate athletics director for administration at Alcorn State … Regis (Colorado) has named David Spafford the assistant vice president and director of athletics. Spafford has served as the interim athletics director since January and has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, including 16 years in NCAA athletics at seven universities … Brad Franz, head men’s basketball coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State and a longtime higher education administrator, has been named director of athletics at the university … UTSA Deputy Director of Athletics Jim Sarra has been named director of athletics at Illinois-Springfield, pending approval by the University of Illinois board of trustees … Former Syracuse Athletics Director Daryl Gross was named the executive director for athletics at Cal State L.A. Gross most recently served as a vice president and special assistant to the chancellor at Syracuse … Joshua Murfree resigned as athletics director at Fort Valley State. LuWanna Williams, associate director of athletics, compliance director and deputy Title IX officer at Fort Valley State, was appointed acting athletics director … West Liberty selected longtime head coaches Lynn Ullom and Roger Waialae as co-interim athletics directors. The announcement followed the decision by Athletics Director Aaron Huffman to step down to spend more time with his family. He is returning to his faculty position in the College of Education. The winningest women’s basketball coach in West Virginia collegiate history, Ullom is set to embark on his 26th season at the helm of the Lady Hilltopper program. Waialae, who has compiled a 67-55 (.549) record, is heading into his 12th year as head football coach … Morgan Walker, formerly senior associate athletics director at Cal State San Bernardino, was named interim director of athletics at the school. He replaced Kevin Hatcher, who resigned after nine years as director of athletics … Bill Hogan has become assistant vice president for athletics advancement at Seattle, moving out of his role as athletics director. Associate Athletics Director for Administration Shawn Farrell will serve as interim athletics director … Nathan Gibson was named director of athletics at Colorado-Colorado Springs. Gibson, who most recently was senior associate athletics director, joined the department in 2006.

Eads most recently worked at Belmont as associate athletics director and senior woman administrator. Belmont promoted Renee Schultz to associate athletics director for student services and senior woman administrator. Schultz, who played soccer for Belmont and was a two-year team captain, most recently served as assistant athletics director … Concordia Portland promoted Amy Dames Smith to associate athletics director. The department’s compliance officer, academic liaison and senior woman administrator, Smith is entering her fourth year at Concordia … Minnesota announced two athletics department additions, both coming from similar roles at Syracuse. Hoffman had served as the head athletic trainer at Mount St. Mary’s since 2013 … Washington College promoted Kim Lessard to assistant athletics director. Lessard, longtime head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming programs, will serve as aquatics director but will step away from coaching to take on a full-time administrative role … North Georgia hired Mary Rob Plunkett as the department’s assistant athletics director for business operations and senior woman administrator. Plunkett served as director of golf operations at Auburn for two seasons … Quinnipiac named Alyssa Budkofsky assistant athletics director for business. Budkofsky has served as the assistant athletics director for academic services for Quinnipiac’s men’s basketball team for the past nine years … Concordia Portland promoted Kyle Nelson to assistant athletics director of sports medicine. Nelson, the head athletic trainer responsible for coverage of all 15 varsity sports, is in his fourth year with the Cavaliers … Alaska Fairbanks promoted Nona Letuligasenoa to assistant athletics director of communications and sports information director. Letuligasenoa worked for the past two seasons as the marketing and media relations assistant in the athletics department … Ken Johnson Jr., assistant director of athletics for communications at Assumption, has resigned to accept a position as director of communications, promotions and marketing at MIT … West Virginia promoted Zach Eckert to assistant athletics director for facilities/operations and Susan Hammond to assistant athletics director/donor relations … Quinton Freeman resigned as assistant athletics director for student development at New Mexico to take a job in the private sector. In addition, Kasey Byers has been named assistant athletics director for video production. He previously was Lobo TV executive producer.

Coaches

Baseball − Upper Iowa announced Brandon Hunt as head coach. Hunt has served as an assistant coach with the Augustana (South Dakota) team for the past four years … Ohio Dominican promoted Chris Antonides to head coach. Antonides spent the past three seasons as the program’s assistant coach and will replace Paul Page, who retired after 29 years leading the team … Drew Fittry was promoted to head baseball coach at Hilbert. Fittry joined the pitching staff two seasons ago ... Barry head coach Marc Pavao resigned after 11 seasons to pursue other opportunities.

Men’s basketball − Georgia Southwestern hired Ben Hicks as head coach. Hicks was an assistant coach the past four seasons at Columbus State.

Women’s basketball − Valdosta State hired Carley (Peterson) Kuhns as head coach. Kuhns, a Valdosta State alum and a 2015 Blazer Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, spent six years as an assistant coach at Belmont … Humboldt State hired Michelle Bento-Jackson as head coach. Bento-Jackson spent four years as head coach at Texas A&M International, during which she captured the program’s first Heartland Conference championship.

Women’s basketball staff − Erica Yost was named coordinator of player development at Bradley.

Men’s and women’s cross country and track and field − Chris Wood, who was announced as Lynn’s head cross country coach in January, was selected to start Lynn’s women’s track program, which will begin NCAA long-distance competition during the 2017-18 championship season … Palm Beach Atlantic will bring back men’s cross country and add men’s and women’s distance track in 2017-18. Maryellen Powers, who just completed her first season leading the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s cross country team, will coach all four running teams … Wisconsin-Parkside hired Thomas Breitbach as head coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs. Breitbach previously served as a graduate assistant for Edgewood in Madison, Wisconsin … New Haven selected Logan Sharpe as men’s track and field head coach. Sharpe was a standout runner at Southern Connecticut State … Michigan Tech promoted graduate assistant coach Jake Isaacson to head coach for the men’s and women’s track and field team and assistant coach for cross country.

Field hockey − Kim Hannigan will lead Molloy’s new field hockey team, which will begin competition this fall. Hannigan served as head coach at Dowling for three seasons.

Men’s and women’s golf − David Pennell was named head men’s and women’s coach at Mars Hill. Pennell had been head coach at Columbia College in South Carolina since 2013 … McKendree hired Josh Williams as head coach of the men’s program. Williams spent four years as the men’s coach at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio … Ryan Jamison is stepping down as head coach of Nova Southeastern’s men’s program to become assistant men’s coach at Stanford. Jamison’s four-year stint as head coach included the 2015 NCAA Division II title.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse − Marissa Dauria has been named head women’s coach at Hilbert. Dauria will continue to serve as the assistant principal of student life at Mount St. Mary Academy in Kenmore, New York, where she previously coached lacrosse … Winthrop hired Julika Blankenship as head coach of its women’s team. Blankenship coached at Queens (North Carolina) the past three seasons, where her teams won three consecutive South Atlantic Conference tournament titles.

Rowing − Nova Southeastern’s Heather Barney resigned as head coach to accept the same position at Trinity (Connecticut). Former Nova Southeastern assistant Devin Fay assumes duties as interim head coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer − Molly Grisham stepped down as head coach of the Illinois-Springfield women’s team after three years at the helm. Grisham is pursuing a career in leadership development consulting … New Jersey City announced the resignation of head men’s coach Patrick Snyder to become assistant coach of New Jersey Copa FC’s National Premier Soccer League and United Women’s Soccer teams. Joseph Cullen was appointed head coach at New Jersey City. Cullen, a 2010 graduate of Montclair State, spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Moravian … Trinity (Texas) named Dylan Harrison head coach of the women’s team at his alma mater. Since 2009, he has been head women’s coach at Nicholls State … Ohio Valley alum and former coach Brianne Lodato is returning as interim head women’s coach. Lodato helped found the program in 2000 and served as a player-coach. She later returned as head coach of the program from 2007 to 2011 … Denise Brolly, head women’s coach at Barry, resigned after three seasons to take the head coaching job at Queens (North Carolina).

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants − Washington U. in St. Louis hired Randi Simmons as the full-time assistant coach of its women’s team. Simmons replaces Tia Nardella, who resigned in May. Simmons spent the past two seasons as an assistant women’s coach at Chico State … Hofstra appointed Stephen Roche as an assistant coach on the men’s team.

Softball − William “Junior” Bailey, head softball coach and athletics director at Pitt Community College in Winterville, North Carolina, for the past 10 years, was named head coach at Barton … Rodney DeLong resigned as head coach at Cameron and has accepted a position as an assistant coach for Georgia Tech. DeLong recently completed his third season at Cameron … West Georgia selected Al Thomas as head coach. Thomas spent the previous 12 seasons at Shorter, the past five as head coach. Shorter promoted assistant coach Jessie Homesley to head coach.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving − Washington College promoted Matt Harris to head men’s and women’s coach. Harris has been on the coaching staff for four years and was elevated to associate head coach last year … Brianne Globig, interim coach for East Stroudsburg’s women’s team during the 2015-16 season, has been named the program’s permanent head coach … After more than 2½ decades at the helm, Rollins men’s and women’s coach Rich Morris will be stepping down, taking a full-time position as a member of the Rollins faculty.

Men’s and women’s tennis − Ashland hired Lexi Bolesky as head coach of its women’s team. Bolesky, who played for Coastal Carolina from 2007 to 2011, became a volunteer assistant coach for her alma mater in the fall of 2012 and assistant coach starting in the spring of 2014 … Samantha Schall was named men’s and women’s head coach at Illinois-Springfield. Schall spent three seasons as an assistant coach at MSU Denver.

Men’s and women’s volleyball − Jesse Carpenter was named head coach of the Saint Michael’s women’s program. Carpenter was a volunteer assistant coach last fall … Julie Redus has been named the interim head coach of the women’s team at Mississippi College. Redus served the 2015 season as the squad’s assistant coach.

Wrestling − Michael Baxter took over as head coach at Coker after spending two seasons as an assistant at Mercyhurst.

Staff

Strength and conditioning − Chris Grautski, who served as an assistant football coach and strength and conditioning coordinator for the past three seasons, becomes Assumption’s first full-time strength and conditioning coach.

Development − Robert Talley, a longtime football coach in the college and professional ranks, took over as director of development for athletics at Chico State.

Dan Leibovitz, the primary men’s basketball administrator for the American Athletic Conference, has been named associate commissioner for men’s basketball for the Southeastern Conference … Four members of the American Athletic Conference staff received promotions: Michael Costa to senior director of football administration, Catherine Carmignani to director of branding and sport administration, Jamie Corun to assistant director of digital communications, and Hali Oughton to assistant director of digital media and reporter … The Big Ten Conference announced the hiring of Jason Yellin as assistant commissioner, communications, and Chris Masters as associate director, communications. The conference also promoted Adam Augustine and Brett McWethy to directors in the communications department … The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference hired Andre Lanoue as the conference’s baseball officials coordinator. Lanoue has 14 years of umpiring experience in the NSIC and 10 years at the Division I level … John Rollins was named interim commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Rollins will continue his current role as chief financial officer while taking on further administrative responsibilities during this time of transition … Dell Robinson, commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since June 2009, announced his resignation.

Deaths

Alex Sanchez, 21, a wide receiver on the Tarleton State football team, died June 26 in a two-car collision on U.S. 281 in Texas. Sanchez competed in seven games for the Texans during his junior season last fall, hauling in six passes for 52 yards, as well as making two solo tackles on the special teams unit … Nebraska-Kearney sophomore Marlene Rashidi, a member of the track and field team, was killed in a June 26 shooting incident in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rashidi, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was 20 years old.
