Athletics directors -- St. John’s has appointed Joseph Oliva as interim athletic director. For the past two years, Oliva has held oversight responsibilities for the department of athletics.  During his tenure overseeing Athletics, St. John’s was involved in significant strategic moves, including the transition to the new BIG EAST Conference, the BIG EAST’s partnership with FOX Sports, and St. John’s Athletics department-wide partnership with Under Armour … Ryan Shockey has been named the interim athletic director at Olivet College. Shockey joined the Comet staff in January of 2013 as head athletic trainer, and will continue to serve in that capacity … University of Dayton Vice-President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler announced that he will retire. Wabler, 63, is the first Dayton native to serve as UD's director of athletics.  He was a three-time Flyer Pitcher of the Year before graduating from the University in 1974 … Jamie Reynolds has been named the director of athletics at Marymount. Reynolds has been a member of Saints’ athletics since her lacrosse playing days as an undergraduate from 2000-03 … Metro State hired Anthony Grant as the university's new director of athletics. Grant will oversee and manage the school’s 16-sport intercollegiate athletic program as well its 12 club sports and support functions … Jamie R. Joss was named athletic director at Davis & Elkins. Previously, he was the director of athletics at Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon.  Joss has college and university athletic administration experience at several NCAA Division I, II and III schools – including Colgate, Rochester Institute of Technology and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University … Lindenwood longtime Athletics Director John Creer announced his decision to retire at year's end. Creer has been a member of the Lindenwood community since 1991 when he was named the school's dean of students, a position he held until 1999. In 1996, Creer also became the head coach of Lindenwood's cross country and track and field teams, and in 2001 he was named the school's athletics director … Milwaukee School of Engineering Athletic Director Dan Harris announced his retirement. Under Harris’ leadership, the Raiders have grown from 14 teams to 21 in his tenure, including the addition of growing sports men’s volleyball, men’s rowing and men’s lacrosse, as well as men’s and women’s track & field … Matthew Green was named the next athletic director at Lincoln Memorial. Green most recently served as the interim director of athletics at Shorter, taking up that post at the tail end of a five-year tenure as the senior associate athletic director, where he oversaw all aspects of the Hawks' 20 intercollegiate sports, including staff management, budgeting, scheduling, student-athlete services and academic support …  Michelle Walsh was selected to be the director of athletics at Vassar. Previously, Walsh served as the associate director of athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at the State University of New York at Geneseo … Mike Buddie was selected as Furman’s next athletic director. Buddie comes to Furman following a decade at Wake Forest, where most recently he served as senior associate athletic director for administration/development … The IUPUI department of athletics announced that longtime Athletics Director Michael Moore is resigning his position. Moore navigated IUPUI to the NCAA Division I level and doubled the sport offerings from nine programs to the current day 18 teams.

Associate athletics directors -- Lauren Ashman was named senior associate athletics director and Senior Woman Administrator at Bowling Green. Ashman will expand upon her esponsibilities as the sport administrator for multiple teams. She will also oversee student-athlete welfare and sport performance units comprised of sport medicine and strength and conditioning … Zac Selmon was named Oklahoma’s senior associate athletics director/chief of operations. Selmon served the last year as associate athletics director and special assistant to the athletics director at North Carolina … Alex Winnicker was hired as associate director of athletics for compliance and student-athlete services for St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn). In the newly created role, Winnicker will primarily be responsible for all compliance activities, monitoring recruiting and student-athlete eligibility, and will have direct supervision of seven of the athletic department’s 13 varsity teams … Colleen Heimstead was promoted to senior associate athletic director/Senior Woman Administrator at North Dakota State. Heimstead will continue to oversee compliance and will be the sport administrator for NDSU's track and field and cross country programs … Troy Goergen was named senior associate athletic director for external operations at North Dakota State. He will be the sport administrator for women's soccer, men's golf and women's golf … Jack Maughan, senior associate athletic director for development, will be the sport administrator for wrestling at North Dakota State. Maughan returned to NDSU in 2012 after spending 26 years at Northern Colorado, where he was the director of development after a 22 seasons as the head wrestling coach at UNC … Houston hired Marvin Julich Jr. as senior associate athletics director for external relations. Julich made his start in college athletics in 1997 as the assistant director of marketing at Ole Miss before serving as executivedDirector of Host Media for three years, increasing media sales in his region by 38 percent, with more than $1.2 million in partnerships … Mary McElroy was named executive senior associate athletic director and Senior Woman Administrator at Temple. McElroy joins the Owls' staff from the Collegiate Licensing Company in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as the director for partner services … Grand Canyon named Nick Ojea as its new senior associate athletic director for compliance and administration. At Rutgers since August of 2011, Ojea was the chief compliance officer for 24 varsity sports … Terry Donovan is joining Fresno State’s senior leadership team as the Bulldogs’ senior associate athletics director for business operations. Donovan returns to the west after four years as the executive senior associate athletics director and chief financial officer at Syracuse … Miami (Ohio)  announced that Keanah Smith was promoted to associate athletic director and Chief Operations Officer. While continuing her athletic event and facilities management duties, Smith will now oversee athletic communications, fan, campus and community engagement (formerly marketing) and ticket operations … Jeremy Wang was named associate athletic director for development at California. In his role at Cal, Wang will lead the development office and oversee all fundraising efforts supporting the athletic department’s 30 intercollegiate programs, including major gifts, donor and alumni relations, stewardship, the annual fund and planned giving opportunities … Ryan Robinson was named senior associate athletics director for communications at Tennessee. Previously, Robinson was employed as the director of public relations for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars … Kristy Sromovsky  was  promoted to associate AD/compliance and student-athlete affairs at Temple. In her new role, Sromovsky will oversee all aspects of the department's compliance efforts with conference and NCAA rules and regulations … Dan Gaston was named senior associate athletic director for facilities and operations at South Dakota. Gaston has been the assistant athletic director of event and facility operations at Washington since 2012 and has been associated with the Huskies since becoming a student-athlete there in 1997 … Tacy Lincoln was hired as an associate director of athletics at Saint Michael's College. Lincoln will be responsible primarily for NCAA compliance and sport supervision … Molly O'Mara was named to the newly-created position of associate director of athletics for communications and public relations at UMass. O'Mara will oversee all areas of athletics communications, including department messaging, media relations, internet strategies, social media, graphic design and video production … Liz Jarnigan was promoted to the position of senior associate athletics director/Senior Woman Administrator at San Jose State. Jarnigan came to San Jose State after seven years at Tulsa specializing in student-athlete support services. Her career in athletics administration began at Briar Cliff College as an assistant athletics director in 1994 … Jacob Ludwikowski was promoted to associate athletics director for compliance and student-athlete services at New Orleans. Ludwikowski has been a member of the Privateer family since 2012 before being promoted to assistant athletics director for compliance one year later … Nate Davis was promoted to associate athletic director for administration at Northwest Missouri State. He has served as assistant AD for marketing, promotions and licensing since 2011 … Lynn Coutts has been named senior associate director of athletics at Maine. Coutts was hired in fall 2010 as the head softball coach and spent the previous four seasons at the helm of the Black Bears. In her new role, she will oversee compliance, Title IX, financial aid, student-athlete conduct, sports medicine, sports performance and equipment … Staff changes are in store for the Dominican (California) department of athletics. Alumni and current Assistant Athletics Directors, Brandon Davis and Cassandra Urroz, were promoted to associate athletics directors. Another alumnus and current Men's Soccer Coach, Phil Billeci-Gard, will transition to administration as an associate director of athletics … Mark Alnutt was named the deputy director of athletics at Memphis.  Previously, Alnutt was the director of athletics at Southeast Missouri State …Todd Phelps was named deputy director of athletics at North Dakota State. Phelps will lead NDSU's athletic facilities and capital projects along with oversight of equipment services, sports medicine and strength and conditioning … Zack Lassiter was appointed deputy athletic director for external operations at Oregon State. Lassiter will provide the strategic vision and leadership for the department’s external units, including the management of OSU athletics’ brand, marketing, creation of multi-media content, ticket sales, Beaver Sports Properties, licensing, fan experience, social media strategies, media contracts, and merchandise.

Assistant athletics directors -- Northwestern named Jay Hilbrands as the new assistant athletic director for sports information. While serving as the primary contact for softball, track and field, swimming and diving, and women's soccer, Hilbrands was responsible for game previews, recaps, interviews, and statistics. He also managed social media platforms and web content for his assigned sports … Ericka Lavender has been hired as the assistant athletic director for academic services at Toledo. Lavender comes to UT from LSU where she was the assistant director of academic affairs from 2009-2013 and later served as the associate director for academic affairs from 2013-15 … Colleen Dempsey was named assistant director of athletic communications at Sage. A varsity letterwinner in soccer for the Division II Mounties, she worked for five years as a member of the Mansfield University sports information office … Mike Houck was named Oklahoma’s  assistant athletics director for strategic communications. Houck has worked more than 150 Sooner football games in his 20-year tenure, including every OU-Texas game during that span and five bowl games (2001 Orange, 2002 Cotton, 2004 Sugar, 2005 Orange and 2009 BCS Championship)… William Smith promoted Sophie Dennis Riskie to assistant athletic director of student-athlete development. In her new role, she will oversee all aspects of the William Smith Athletics Department's Peak Performance Plan …Travis Whipple was  named the new assistant athletic director for external operations at Arkansas Little Rock. Whipple joins the Trojans from Winona, Minnesota, where he most recently served as the director of advancement and athletics for Cotter Schools … Nancy Fahey was promoted to assistant director of athletics while continuing to serve as the head coach of the women's basketball program at Washington. Fahey currently serves as a member of the senior leadership team, which meets regularly to discuss all matters pertaining to the department's operation. She is also actively involved in staff recruitment, development of policies and procedures, and strategic planning … Brad Corbin was named the new assistant A.D. for compliance at Miami. Corbin spent the past three years at Murray State, the last year as the assistant A.D. for compliance… Chanc Gomez  joined the Colorado State University-Pueblo athletics department as the new assistant athletic director for tickets and facilities. Gomez will handle all aspects of ticketing for the ThunderWolves, including football and basketball season tickets … Kamille Wahlin was promoted to assistant athletic director/Senior Women’s Administrator at Minnesota-Crookston. Wahlin, a native of Crookston,  spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the UMC women's basketball team and will remain in that role, in addition to her new responsibilities … Bethany Schlegel became the assistant athletics director for academic services at Iona. Schlegel comes to New Rochelle after serving in a similar position at Finger Lakes Community College … Troy Van Zile was named the assistant athletic director for development at  Tennessee- Chattanooga. Van Zile joins Chattanooga athletics after spending the last year as the executive vice president of University Development at Impacts Unlimited in Nashville, Tennessee.

Coaches

Baseball -- Washington and Lee hired Lucas Jones as head baseball coach. Jones comes to W&L from Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Virginia, where he served as the head coach for the past two seasons.

Baseball assistants -- John Habyan joined Hofstra as assistant baseball coach. Habyan comes to Hofstra after 17 seasons as head varsity baseball coach at St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, New York … Austin Morgan was hired as an assistant at the College of Charleston. A former catcher and student assistant coach at CofC, Morgan will serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator, assist with hitting and infield, and serve as a bench coach … Jeff Whitfield was added to the baseball staff at the College of Charleston. Whitfield, who was previously the associate head coach at former Southern Conference rival Furman, will serve as the program’s hitting coach, assist in recruiting as well as being in charge of coaching the outfielders … Jimmy Holton was named an assistant at College of Charleston. A former catcher and student assistant coach at CofC, Holton will coach the program’s catchers and assist Heath with the pitching staff.

Men’s basketball— Penn State Altoona athletics has announced the hiring of Doug West as the head coach of its men’s basketball program. West becomes the fifth head coach in the Penn State Altoona men’s basketball Division III era, which began in the 1998-99 season.

Men’s basketball assistants -- Hofstra announced that Akbar Waheed  joined the Pride coaching staff as an assistant coach. Waheed joins the Hofstra staff after spending the past season as a scout with the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA.

Women’s basketball—Robyn Burton was selected as the women’s head basketball coach at New Jersey City University. Burton replaces Amy Mulligan, who coached the Gothic Knights for four seasons (2011-15) before resigning this spring for a position outside of college athletics.

Women’s basketball assistants -- Jade Singleton was hired as assistant coach at Delaware. Singleton joins the Blue Hens from her alma mater, Duquesne, where she spent the last two seasons as the director of basketball operations and administration … Catherine Cassidy joined the women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach under Trisha Brown at Stonehill.  Cassidy comes to Stonehill after two years as assistant women’s basketball coach at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.

Men’s and women’s cross country -- Jim Sprecher was named the director of cross country and track and field at Lynchburg.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistants —Jessie Petersen was named Hofstra’s new men’s and women’s cross country assistant coach. Petersen, who was an AAU All-American in track and field in 2010-11, has worked for Apex Physical Therapy in California for the past three summers, first as an intern at their Foster City clinic in 2012 and the past two years as a physical therapist aide in San Carlos in 2013 and 2014.

Field hockey assistants -- Holy Cross hired Chris Pothier as the program's assistant coach. Pothier comes to the program with over a decade of coaching and playing experience.

Men’s golf—Jessie Mudd was named the men’s golf coach at Lamar. Mudd comes to campus after five seasons at Kentucky where he helped build a program that finished 18th nationally at the NCAA championships in 2014.

Men’s lacrosse -- Jamie Lockard was named Albright’s head men’s lacrosse coach.

Women’s lacrosse -- Amanda Belichick was named the new women's lacrosse coach at Holy Cross. Belichick, who is the sixth head coach in program history, joins the Crusaders after spending the last two seasons as the head coach at Wesleyan University …William Smith  named Anne Phillips the head coach of the Heron lacrosse team. Phillips spent the last seven seasons as the head coach of the Yale lacrosse team … Lauren Marois was named the next head women’s lacrosse coach at Sage. Marois spent the last two seasons with the program as an assistant coach.

Women’s Soccer— Richard Drake was hired as head coach of Alverno’s soccer program. Drake becomes the program's ninth head coach and succeeds Brittany Nikolic, who departed Alverno after six seasons to become head coach at Wisconsin-Parkside.

Softball -- Mike Coutts was named softball coach at Maine. Coutts joined the softball program as an assistant in 2012 and was promoted to associate head coach in spring 2014 … Jennifer Probst was named softball coach at Millersville. Probst is the program's sixth head coach since its start in 1979.

Softball assistants-- Mimi Mahon was named assistant softball coach at DePauw.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis-- Lenoir-Rhyne hired Dean Mathias as its new head men’s and women’s tennis coach. Mathias takes over for Scott Handback, who served as acting head coach during the 2015 season after the death of Lenoir-Rhyne Bobby McKee in January … Chad Skorupka was named the head coach at San Jose State. In nine seasons as a NCAA Division I head coach at Yale and Wake Forest, Skorupka has a 119-83 win-loss record.

Men’s and women’s track and field -- Sam Kettenhofen was named the interim head coach for men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs at St. Cloud State. Kettenhofen has served as a graduate assistant coach with the St. Cloud State men's and women's track and field programs since 2013.

Women’s volleyball -- St. Cloud State hired Chad Braegelmann as the Huskies’ next head volleyball coach. Braegelmann was the head women’s volleyball coach at Minnesota-Morris, where he also served as the sports studies and athletics discipline coordinator and as an assistant athletics director … Academy of Art University made Ray Batalon the head coach of its volleyball program. Carrying 20 years of volleyball coaching experience, Batalon joined ART U after a five-year stint as the associate head women's volleyball coach at Pacific.

Women’s volleyball assistants -- Holy Cross named Eric Buggs as an assistant volleyball coach. Buggs comes to Holy Cross with several years of coaching experience at the collegiate and club levels which includes stops at Niagara, Canisius and Buffalo.

Conferences

Commissioners -- Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced he will be stepping down from the position he has held nearly 13 years to serve as the executive director of the College Football Playoff Foundation and further his work with a number of other nonprofit organizations. Banowsky will stay with the Conference until it completes the process to identify his successor.

Associate commissioners – The Western Athletic Conference promoted Nicole Harvey, who was previously assistant commissioner for compliance, to associate commissioner.

Assistant commissioners -- Jordan Confessore was been promoted to assistant commissioner for women’s basketball at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. As the assistant commissioner, Confessore will be responsible for developing the MAAC women’s basketball schedule and the planning and operations of the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship … … Meanwhile, Vicky Eggleston, who was previously the director of creative services, and Hope Shuler, who was previously the director of media relations, are now assistant commissioners … The Mountain West promoted Gary Walenga to assistant commissioner business/Chief Financial Officer. In his new role, Walenga will oversee all of the MW's budgeting, financial and human resources activities.

Coordinator of officials -- The Western Athletic Conference hired Violet Palmer as coordinator of women's basketball officials. Palmer has served as coordinator of women's basketball officials for the West Coast Conference since 2009 and the Pac-12 Conference since 2010.

Media relations -- Jeremy Strachan was appointed as the director of media relations for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Strachan will be charged with developing a comprehensive media relations effort that profiles the student-athlete experience as well as the traditional roles of the position.

Sports administration -- Patrick Colbert was promoted to director of sport administration and championships, while Catherine Carmignani was promoted to assistant director of branding and sport administration for the American Athletic Conference. Colbert joined the conference in 2012, where he managed all facets of scheduling, policy implementation and championship oversight for the sports of softball, swimming and diving, tennis, men’s golf and rowing while assisting with men’s basketball, men’s soccer and cross country.

Deaths

Former Columbus State head men’s basketball coach and athletic director Herbert Greene passed away July 13, at the age of 71. Greene served as head coach and athletic director when CSU was one of seven schools to found the Peach Belt Conference in 1990. He leaves an enduring legacy at Columbus State, the basketball court at the Frank G. Lumpkin Center was renamed in his honor last year … Former Florida Athletic Director Bill Arnsparger passed away at the age of 88 on July 18. Arnsparger began to change the culture at Florida during his five-year stint as AD, making several coaching changes during his tenure. Arnsparger accomplished much in his life. At Florida, his role in hiring Spurrier tops the list. Spurrier led the Gators to their first national championship in 1996 and finished a 12-year run at his alma mater with a record of 122-27-1 … Former Southwestern  Director of Athletics and 2012 Hall of Fame inductee Carla Lowry passed away July 23, at the age of 76. She was announced as the first female director of athletics in the history of the university in 1984 and also served as chair of the department of kinesiology, another female first for Southwestern. Not only an administrator, Lowry’s career included stints as an athlete, teacher, coach and noted scholar … Former Minnesota sports information director Bob Peterson passed away July 26, at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer. He served as president of the College Sports Information Directors of America in 1977-78, and received his profession's ultimate honor when selected by his peers for the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1983. Peterson came to Minnesota in 1975 after 10 years as the sports information director at St. Cloud State.

Athletic directors -- Cal State Dominquez Hills announced Jeff Falkner as athletic director. A Gardena, California, native, Falkner will begin his tenure at Cal State Dominguez Hills after serving one year as athletics director at New Mexico Highlands … Peggy Carl has been hired as athletic director at Salem State (Massachusetts). Carl most recently served for six years as director of athletics and recreation at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin … Mike Wagner will assume the position of athletic director at Illinois Wesleyan. Previously, Wagner was the associate athletics director, where he assisted in all facets of department operation from fundraising initiatives, personnel decisions, operational structure, budget, gender equity compliance, marketing and promotions and NCAA compliance … Scott McGuinness has been appointed director of athletics at Washington & Jefferson. McGuinness, who has worked at W&J since 2001 primarily as the sports information director, spent the last academic year as interim co-director of athletics … Greg J. Amodio has been appointed director of athletics and Recreation at Quinnipiac. Amodio previously worked at Duquesne … Toby Lovecchio stepped down as director of athletics at Scranton to become the associate athletic director for operations. In his role, he managed the day-to-day operations of the university’s Division III athletics program … Stan Vieira has been named the Director of Athletics at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Vieira comes to Wentworth after working this past year at Providence where he was the director of off campus life and complex director for the Office of Residence Life … Mark Coyle will become the next director of athletics at Syracuse. Coyle currently serves as director of athletics at Boise State, where he was responsible for leading the daily operations of a 20-sport athletics department … Todd Stansbury was named director of athletics at Oregon State. Stansbury, who has 25 years of athletics administration experience, has spent the last three-plus years as vice president and athletic director at Central Florida … Todd Brooks returns as athletics director at Berry. He left to serve as athletic director at Christopher Newport  in 2013 … Jason Herbers has been selected as the next director of athletics at Minnesota, Morris. Herbers comes to Morris after serving as the associate athletic director in charge of development and operations at Dixie State in Saint George, Utah, for five years and five years as Utah State's assistant athletic director … Milton Overton has been named the new director of athletics at Florida A&M. Overton comes to FAMU after six years at Alabama, where he served on the athletics executive team as the senior associate athletics director, and seven years at Texas A&M, where he also served on the athletics executive team, overseeing six sports teams and information technology … Boise State announced that Curt Apsey has been named the university's athletic director. He was Boise State's senior associate athletic director for 16 years, as well as interim director for the final months of 2011 … After nearly two decades as the Wisconsin-Platteville athletic director, Mark Molesworth announced that he will retire. Molesworth joined the Pioneer athletic department in 1996, presiding over 16 sports. He helped fund and design new facilities for baseball, outdoor track and field, wrestling practice facility and the Pioneer Fitness Center as well as renovations to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium, softball complex, indoor track and field and offices … Tamica Smith Jones will become the next athletic director at UC Riverside. Jones has 15 years of experience working in collegiate athletics, and previously served as athletic director/Senior Woman Administrator at Clark Atlanta University after a stint there as the head volleyball coach. Previously she held similar positions at Morris Brown and Savannah State… Santa Clara has hired Renee Baumgartner as director of athletics. Prior to joining Syracuse, she worked for more than two decades at Oregon … Harold Croker was named director of athletics at Ramapo. Crocker held the same position at New Rochelle since 1998 where he oversaw six NCAA Division III programs … Brandi Laurita will become the next director of athletics at Findlay. She has served as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee advisor and has been accountable for the allocation, oversight and distribution of athletic scholarships. Laurita has also been strategically placed on a number of NCAA and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference committees, most notably the GLIAC Executive Committee and GLIAC Management Council … Nathan J. Mortimer was named interim director of athletics at Akron. Mortimer succeeds Tom Wistrcill, who resigned June 16 after accepting a job in Dallas … George O'Leary, in his 12th season as Central Florida football coach, will serve as interim director of athletics at the school through the end of 2015. The Knights won seven American Athletic Conference championships in 2014-15, including a second consecutive conference football title under O'Leary … Gerry DiBartolo will assume the role of interim athletic director at Salisbury. DiBartolo has been at Salisbury since 1979 and took the role of head men's soccer coach in 1982. Assistant athletic directors -- Megan Cullinane was named the assistant athletic director for compliance for New York Institute of Technology … Patrick Pierson has been promoted to assistant athletics director for communications at Arkansas. Pierson will lead a communications department which services 19 sports programs. He will also be a member of the department’s senior staff and serve as the primary communications contact for football … Daniel J. Vander Woude was named the assistant athletics director for development at the University of Sioux Falls. Vander Woude will be responsible for the development of the Cougar Pride Club (USF’s athletics booster club and annual fund), as well as the sales of season and group tickets … Andy Obringer has been promoted to assistant athletics director for operations at Colorado College. Parsons finished his 11th season at Metro State in 2014 and led the Roadrunners to four NCAA tournament berths in the past nine seasons … Tony Bankston, a 1991 Illinois Wesleyan graduate and former Titan soccer letterman and head coach, has been named as Illinois Wesleyan’s assistant athletic director. Besides managing the athletic facilities, Bankston's responsibilities will include fundraising and student-athlete alumni relations, as well as marketing and promotions of our athletic events.

Associate athletic directors -- Joan Taylor has announced her retirement from Brown. Taylor began her career in Brown’s athletic department in September 1969 as head coach of women’s tennis and instructor in physical education … Darrice Griffin has been appointed to the position of senior associate director of athletics for internal operations/Senior Woman Administrator at Massachusetts. In her new role at UMass, Griffin will oversee several varsity sport internal support units including academic services, equipment, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, student-athlete enrichment and facilities and operations … Talea Drummer has been named the associate athletics director for student-athlete support services at Eastern Michigan. In her new role, Drummer will be part of the department's executive staff with oversight of academic services for all of EMU's 21 Division I sports … Bill Lansden was hired as senior associate athletics director for development at Virginia Tech. In this role, Lansden will be responsible for the leadership of all facets of the program … Yariv Amir will serve as Colgate’s associate athletic director for external operations. Amir served the last four years as Princeton's assistant AD for marketing … Brittney Whiteside will join Appalachian State as an associate athletics director. In her role, Whiteside will serve as a member of the athletics department’s executive team and be the sport administrator for various Appalachian State sports … Andrew Smith has joined the athletics senior staff at American as its new associate athletics director for compliance and internal operations. In his new role, Smith will be responsible for the Eagles’ compliance office and operations, serve as its liaison for human relations and have supervisory responsibilities for a number of sports … North Carolina hired Nicki Moore as a senior associate athletics director. Moore is currently in her third year as Oklahoma’s senior associate AD for student life and strategic planning and the Senior Woman Administrator … Illinois State hired Dwight Merilatt as executive associate athletics director for external affairs. Merilatt is very familiar with Illinois State and the Missouri Valley Conference, after spending the last seven years working in the athletics department at Evansville … Mike Waller joins San Jose State as a senior associate athletics director for business operations. Waller comes to San José State after two successful years working in the Mountain West Conference office where he served as senior associate commissioner and chief financial officer.  Craig Angelos has been named Temple’s deputy director of athletics.  Angelos comes to Temple from Florida International University where he served as the senior associate athletic director for revenue enhancement since June 2014 … Colin Sullivan was named deputy director of athletics at Brown. Sullivan comes to Brown with over 20 years of intercollegiate athletics experience, starting as a coach at Iona, then as an administrator for 11 years at Marist, followed by his position at Salve Regina as director of athletics … New Mexico State appointed Chet Savage as the Aggies new deputy athletic director. Savage will primarily direct annual fundraising for the Aggies through the Aggie Athletic Club among other duties closely tied with donor related functions.

Coaches

Baseball --  College of Charleston pitching coach Matt Heath was promoted to head baseball coach. Heath, 36, recently completed his fifth year as CofC’s pitching coach developing a rotation that had compiled a cumulative ERA of 3.56 over the past five years  ... Concord (West Virginia) director of athletics Kevin Garrett will take over as the head baseball coach.  Previously, Garrett led the Concord baseball program from 1995-2010 where he posted a program-record 355 wins, won the 2001 WVIAC Championship and took Concord to three NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament appearances.

Men’s Basketball Assistants --  Milan Brown was hired as assistant men’s basketball coach at the College of Charleston. He replaces former assistant coach Antonio Reynolds Dean, who accepted a position at his alma mater Rhode Island in May.

Women’s Basketball Assistants —Mary Smith, assistant coach of DePauw basketball, announced she is stepping down. In 22 years with the women's basketball program through her coaching and recruiting, Smith helped the Tigers to a 523-107 record including 16 conference championships and 16 NCAA Division III postseason appearances.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country — Bethel hired Joe Stephens to become the newest head men's and women's cross country coach and assistant men's and women's track and field coach. Stephens, who recently finished a three-year stint with the Wyoming cross country and track and field programs, has been a seven-year assistant at the Division I level, a three-year assistant in the NAIA and a two-year assistant at the Division II level.

Football assistants -- Stony Brook announced the additions of Marcus Edwards, Patrick Hatch and Kevin Brennan to the staff. Edwards joins Stony Brook as an assistant coach and will handle the wide receiver corps. Hatch returns to the Seawolves staff as the assistant athletic director for player personnel. Brennan joins the Stony Brook staff as the defensive assistant after spending time at both Fordham and Buffalo State as a student assistant coach.

Women’s Golf—Matt Luther was named head women’s golf coach at South Alabama. Luther takes over the Jaguar program after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma … Jessica Steward has been named Lamar’s women’s golf coach. Steward comes to Beaumont, Texas,  after spending the previous seven years as the women’s head coach at IPFW

Men’s Lacrosse -- North Central hired Jay Farrell as the first head coach of the Cardinals' men's lacrosse program. Farrell will be a part of a start-up program for the third time in his coaching career, having most recently constructed a program at Benedictine University, where he started in the summer of 2011 and guided the Eagles into varsity competition for the first time in spring 2013.

Men’s Lacrosse Assistants -- Holy Cross named Peter Burke as an assistant men's lacrosse coach. Burke was a four-year member and senior captain of the men's lacrosse team at Bucknell as a midfielder.

Women’s Lacrosse —Beloit named Mallory Bahr as its head women’s lacrosse coach. Bahr arrives in Beloit as the Buccaneers’ third coach in the program’s history after a season as the assistant coach at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama.

Softball -- Caitlin Luquet announced she is leaving the position of head coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology.  In her two seasons in the Leopards’ dugout, Luquet coached two players who earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors each season … Ricki Rothbauer was named softball coach at University of Colorado Colorado Springs. She spent four seasons at Texas A&M-Kingsville, where she won 68 games in a conference that produced one national champion, a national semifinalist and a national quarterfinalist … Aileen Morales has left Young Harris in order to take a head coaching position at Radford. While with the Mountain Lions the past two seasons, Morales led Young Harris to 51 wins …  John Seneca was named coach at Delaware. Seneca has served as an assistant coach on the Blue Hen staff since the start of the 2012 season and has assisted with all aspects of team operations including practices, recruiting and opponent scouting reports … Leigh Ann LaFave was appointed softball coach at Albion. LaFave was a successful pitcher at Alma. The Scots achieved a 132-36 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III softball tournament all four years, wining regional championships in 2004 and 2005.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving —Mark Schmitt will become head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at North Central. The 2006 NCAA Division III national champion in the 200-yard backstroke and a five-time Division III All-American, Schmitt brings several years of coaching experience at the competitive club level to the position, as well as a four-year stint as an assistant coach at North Central from 2009-2013.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving assistants —Katie Pheil has been named assistant coach at Wingate. Pheil was an 11-time NCAA Division II All-American for the Bulldogs.

Women’s Tennis — Lydia Pond was hired as women’s tennis coach at North Central. Pond was previously hired as the coordinator of recreation, assistant athletics facilities and events manager in the summer of 2010 and will replace the retiring Don Moravec at the helm of the women's tennis program.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field assistants — Kelli Blake was named assistant coach at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Blake, a 2011 graduate of Washington University and member of both the track and field and cross country teams, returns to her alma mater after coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels upon her graduation.

Men’s Volleyball — Robert Verhayden was named men’s volleyball coach at Sage College. Verhayden replaces Jimmy Pompeo, who resigned last month.

Women’s volleyball assistants — Donald Gleason was hired as Stony Brook’s assistant women’s volleyball coach. Gleason joins the Seawolves after spending the 2014-15 year as an assistant coach at  Buffalo.

Conferences

Commissioners – Tom Yeager announced his retirement as commissioner of the Colonial Athletic Association. In his tenure, the conference has produced 19 national team champions in five different sports, 33 individual national champions, 16 national coaches of the year and 17 national players of the year

Associate commissioners -- Leslie Schuemann was hired as The Heartland Conference’s associate commissioner.  Schuemann's primary roles for the conference will be day-to-day operations within the conference, NCAA DII Compliance and she will serve as the conference Senior Woman Administrator.  She will coordinate and work with the 11 member schools compliance officers to organize annual meetings, execute National Letters of Intent and mediate compliance issues … William King was named associate commissioner for legal affairs and compliance for the Southeastern Conference. In his new role, King will lead the conference's existing governance and compliance staff, serve as an advisor for institutions on NCAA regulatory matters, maintain and improve upon Conference-wide efforts to fulfill SEC and NCAA compliance expectations and provide advice and counsel to the commissioner.

Assistant Commissioner-- Jordan Confessore has been promoted to assistant commissioner for Women’s Basketball at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. As the assistant commissioner, Confessore will be responsible for developing the MAAC women’s basketball schedule and the planning and operations of the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship … The Mountain West Conference promoted Gary Walenga to assistant commissioner business/CFO. In his new role, Walenga will oversee all of the conference’s  budgeting, financial and human resources activities.

Deaths

Former Central Oklahoma athletic director John "Skip" Wagnon passed away June 24, from an apparent heart attack. He was 69. Wagnon retired from Central Oklahoma in 2003 after more than 30 years with the university, including 17 as athletic director … Former Penn State football student-athlete and assistant coach and long-time Virginia Tech Athletic Director Jim Weaver passed away July 2, in Blacksburg, Virginia. He was 70. A 1967 graduate of Penn State with a degree in psychology and rehabilitation education, Weaver played center and linebacker on the football team for head coaches Rip Engle (1964-65) and Joe Paterno (1966). The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native then assisted the coaching staff for two seasons while earning a master’s degree in education.
