Boston College announced that longtime assistant athletics director for athletic communications, Dick Kelley, died after a battle with ALS, he was 48 years old. Kelley spent the last 22 years as the men’s basketball contact. He received the 2013 US Basketball Writers Association’s Most Courageous Award.

Associate athletics director – Long Beach State hired Wayne Stickney as the senior associate athletics director for major gifts and resources.

Assistant athletics director – Wayne State (Michigan) announced Alex Tiseo as its new assistant athletics director for compliance and NCAA liaison … Morehead State named Brad Smith as assistant athletics director of external affairs.


Men’s basketball – Larry Gipson announced he will retire as Northeastern State’s head coach at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season … Lamar relieved Pat Knight of his duties as head coach and named Tic Price as interim head coach.

Field Hockey – Georgetown hired Shannon Karl Soares as its head coach.

Football – Joe Adam resigned as head coach at Elmhurst to accept an assistant coaching job at Syracuse … Rice rewarded David Bailiff with a five-year contract extension … Georgetown promoted Rob Sgarlata to head coach, he has been on the coach staff for the past 18 seasons.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Carroll (Wisconsin) selected Michael Hodge as its first-ever head women’s lacrosse coach and lacrosse coordinator.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Colby named Ewan Seabrook as its head men’s coach … Jackson added Mauricio Ruiz as its head men’s coach … Pacific selected Eric Mild as the new head coach of its men’s program … Delaware extended the contract of head men’s coach Ian Hennessy by five years.

Softball – New York University named James Barrett as its first-ever softball head coach.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – New Jersey Institute hired veteran coach Peter Volkert as its head women’s coach … North Carolina-Greensboro announced Corey Carlin as its new head women’s coach … Winona State named two-time SEC Coach of the Year, Joe Getzin, as its head women’s coach … Marquette added Ryan Theis as its new head women’s coach.


Pat McTarsney, the first-ever head softball coach at Penn State died on February 9, at the age of 81.

Arkansas announced that Bev Lewis, executive associate athletic director, will retire on June 30, 2014. Lewis has served the university as a coach and an administrator for over three decades.

Associate athletics director – Kelly Barsky named deputy associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at UC Santa Barbara.
