Dr. Rick Schavone announced his retirement after 36 seasons as Stanford’s head diving coach. Schavone molded Stanford into one of the top programs in the country. He was a four-time NCAA diving coach of the year and nine-time Pac-12 coach of the year.

Athletics director – Missouri State renewed the contract of Kyle Moats … Worcester State named Michael Mudd as its new athletics director … One of the top female student-athletes in Princeton history, Mollie Marcoux, will take over as the Tigers’ athletics director … South Dakota Mines added Joel Lueken as athletics director. Lueken served as William Jewel’s associate athletics until his appointment … Case Western Reserve named Amy Backus as its first permanent female athletics director. Backus came to the university after serving as the senior associate athletics director at Yale … Wittenberg welcomed Gary Williams as its athletics director … High Point appointed Dan Hauser as its athletics director … Webster hired Sean Kilgallon as its athletics director.

Associate athletics director – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tabbed Jimmy Frush as its associate athletics director for development … North Carolina-Wilmington appointed Adrianne Swinney as senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator. Swinney took over for Pat Howey who retired in fall 2013 … Arkansas hired Elvis Moya as its associate athletics director for marketing and fan development … Texas named Steve Hank as its senior associate athletics director and chief revenue officer. Hank was an associate athletics director at Arizona State … Utah Valley announced the retirement of senior associate athletics director Dr. DJ Smith. Smith has been with the department for 29 years, starting as its sports information director.

Assistant athletics director – Hofstra hired Ariel Pesante as its assistant athletics director for NCAA education and compliance services.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Lincoln (Missouri) hired John Moseley as head coach. Most recently, Moseley was the associate head coach at North Carolina Central, which made it to the division I NCAA tournament … Delaware State named Keith Walker as head coach. He served as interim head coach for part of the 2013-14 season … California hired Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin after the retirement of Mike Montgomery … Western Illinois hired former assistant coach Billy Wright as its new head coach … Mike Gallagher announced his resignation as Wilmington (Delaware)’s head coach … West Texas A&M named Tom Brown as head coach … Tennessee State hired Dana Ford as head coach. Ford was an assistant with the program from 2009-2011 … Frank Haith resigned as Missouri’s head coach to accept the position of Tulsa’s head coach … Tennessee hired Donnie Tyndall as head coach. Tyndall joined the Vols after two seasons as Southern Mississippi’s head coach.

Men’s basketball assistants – Lamar added Anthony Anderson, Bobby Kummer and Tony Madlock as assistant coaches.

Women’s basketball – Matt Cole accepted the position of head coach at East Carolina … Gonzaga promoted Lisa Fortier to head coach … North Dakota State announced Maren Walseth would take over its program for Carolyn DeHoff, who resigned after six seasons. Walseth spent the last seven years as an assistant at Penn State … Bethany Lutheran hired Lyle Jones as head coach … Fresno State hired Jaime White as its head coach … Morehead State selected Greg Todd as its new head coach. Todd spent the last eight seasons as Transylvania’s head coach … Portland promoted Cheryl Sorenson to head coach … Houston named Ron Hughey as head coach.

Football – Minot State announced Tyler Hughes as its head coach.

Men’s and women’s golf – Florida’s head men’s coach Buddy Alexander retired after 27 seasons. The eight-time SEC coach of the year, led the Gators to two national championships in 1993 and 2001.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Jim Morrissey resigned as Holy Cross’s head men’s coach.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Rowan announced the retirement of head coach Tony Lisa after 35 years of coaching

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Chowan hired Dawn Peipher as head coach … North Carolina Central announced Nicki Holmes as its new head coach.

Staff

Sports performance – Columbia promoted Tommy Sheehan to director of sports performance and hired Bob Gilmartin as director of sports performance for football.

Deaths

Former Houston women’s basketball coach Joe Curl, died on April 14 at the age 59 after a lengthy battle with heart problems. Curl is one of the best coaches in Cougar basketball history, compiling an all-time record of 193-67 in 12 seasons at the helm … Former Adelphi assistant vice president and athletics director Robert E. Hartwell died on April 11. He served as athletics director from 1986-2011.

Carnegie Mellon appointed Josh Centor as its athletics director. Centor has been with the department for the last six years, spending the last nine as the interim athletics director. Prior to joining the Carnegie Mellon staff, he spent three working in new media at the NCAA national office.

Athletics director –Columbus State named Johnny Williams as interim athletics director … Montevallo appointed Dawn Makofski, assistant athletics director for compliance, as the interim athletics director … Clark named Patricia H. (Trish) Cronin as its director of athletics and recreation. Cronin served as the interim athletics director for the past eight months after joining the university in 2010 as an assistant athletic trainer … Florida A&M named NFL Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow as its new athletics director.

Associate athletics director – Eastern Michigan hired Dan McLean as its associate athletics director of development. McLean came to Eastern Michigan after a stint as the major gifts officer for the mountaineer athletic club at West Virginia … UNLV hired Darryl Seibel as its associate athletics director for external relations. Seidel was a longtime Olympics communications executive … Troy named Steve Stroud as senior associate athletics director for external affairs … Point Loma Nazarene hired Brian Thornton as associate athletics director … New Mexico State named Fred Heinrich as its associate athletics director for development. Heinrich has been with the Aggies since 2013 as the director of corporate and foundation relations … Avery Esdaile announced his resignation as Wellesley’s associate athletics director to become the athletic director for the Boston Public Schools … Penn State named Tom McGrath as its associate athletics director for business relations and communications.

Assistant athletics director – Green Bay added Adam Miller as its assistant athletics director for development … CSU Bakersfield added Josiah Castro as the assistant athletics director for annual giving … Eastern Michigan named Tommy rapier as assistant athletics director for equipment operations.

Baseball – Saint Michael’s named Scott Strong as interim head coach … Marek Drabinski stepped down as Brown’s head coach.

Football – St. Scholastica hired Kurt Ramler as head coach … Tennessee State extended the contract of head coach Rod Reed through 2018.

Men’s basketball – IUPUI hired Jason Gardner as its head coach. Gardner spent the last season as an assistant at Memphis and was a four-year all-american at Arizona under legendary head coach Lute Olsen … Mike Montgomery announced his retirement as California’s head coach. Montgomery spent 32 seasons as a head coach, compiling 677 victories … New Mexico extended the contract of Craig Neal by two years … South Florida hired Orlando Antigua as its next head coach … Washington State selected Ernie Kent as its next head men’s coach … Marquette named Steve Wojciechowski, associate head coach at Duke, as head coach … Montana State added Brian Fish as head coach … Houston named Kelvin Sampson as head coach. Sampson joined the program after serving as an assistant on the Houston Rockets staff … Boston College selected Jim Christian as its head coach. Christian came to Boston College after serving as the head coach at Ohio … Louisiana Tech and head coach Matt White agreed to a six-year contract extension … Danny Manning accepted the position of head coach at Wake Forest … Ohio hired Saul Phillips as its head coach.  Women’s basketball – Louisiana Tech hired Tyler Summitt as the sixth head coach in program history. The 23 year-old is the son of legendary head coach Pat Summit … TCU announced the hiring of Raegan Pebley as its head coach … Louisiana-Monroe named Jeff Dow as head coach … Texas A&M-Commerce hired Jason Burton as its head coach … Francis Marion selected Jay Sparks as its head coach … Santa Clara hired JR Payne as head coach … Minnesota selected Marlene Stollings as head coach. Stollings spent the last two seasons at VCU … Oregon named Gonzaga head coach Kelly Graves as its new head coach … Washington State extended the contract of head coach June Daughtery through the 2018-19 season … Terri Mitchell won’t return as Marquette’s head coach … Binghamton hired eight-year veteran Linda Cimino as head coach … Natasha Adair accepted the position of head coach at Georgetown.

Men’s and women’s gymnastics – Steve Wilce, one of the longest tenured coaches in intercollegiate athletics announced his retirement as Eastern Michigan’s head coach. He spent the last 32 seasons with the program.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey – Scott Owens stepped down as Colorado College’s head men’s coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Darren Powell as Elon’s head men’s coach to accept a position with the Orlando City Soccer Club … Washington College named Kerry Smith as head women’s coach … Howard named alumnus Phillip Gyau as head coach. Gyau played for the university from 1984-87 and went on to earn six caps as a member of the U.S. national team … Smith hired Mark Platts as head coach … Providence hired Sam Lopes as its head women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Guilford added Megan Sload as an assistant coach for the women’s team … Belmont hired Mark Carr as an assistant men’s coach.

Men’s and women’s swimming – Elliott McGill resigned as head coach to pursue other professional opportunities.

Wrestling – Arizona State announced the addition of Zeke Jones as head coach. Jones was a three-time Sun Devil all-american … Scott Hinkel resigned as Purdue’s head coach … VMI removed the interim from Chris Skretkowicz title as a head coach.

 Men’s and women’s volleyball – North Central (Illinois) named Kyle Exline as head men’s coach.

Staff

Communications – Rutgers hired Tom Luicci as its senior director of digital media.

Development – Troy named Hannah Mason as assistant director of development for special events … CSU Bakersfield promoted Sukhvir Kaur to development coordinator … Wisconsin named Garrett Broom director of development.

Event management – Justin Thaxton joined Grinnell as its diversity and achievement in athletics and coordinator of event management.

Sales – New Mexico State added Suzanne Rosell as director of sponsorship and sales … Troy hired Steve Sikes as its general manager and Jessica Lynch as an account executive for Troy Sports Properties.

Deaths

Colorado College’s legendary football coach Jerry Carle died at the age of 90. Carle doubled as the director of athletics for 25 years while coaching for 33 seasons.
