NCAA Statement on the passing of Birch Bayh

"We extend our condolences to the Bayh family. Credited as the father of Title IX, former U.S. senator and NCAA President’s Gerald R. Ford Award recipient Birch Bayh was one of the most significant trailblazers for gender equity in higher education. His courageous leadership in authoring and vouching for Title IX, which became federal law in 1972, had a major impact on improving academic and athletic opportunities for girls and women. Bayh’s vision of creating a level playing field and his longtime advocacy for inclusion strongly align with the NCAA’s goals."
