The NCAA and Getty Images have agreed to a five-year partnership that will designate the photography company as the NCAA’s exclusive photo distribution and licensing partner through the year 2021. The partnership, which is effective immediately, will provide the world with real-time photography from all NCAA championships, and licensing opportunities for all media and NCAA corporate partners.
The NCAA has more than 150,000 images from championships and events that date back to the 1950s. With 90 championships spanning 24 sports, Getty Images will manage the NCAA’s photo and licensing requests and offer onsite digital transmission where same-day event coverage can be viewed and accessed. The first event will be the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Getty Images and the NCAA collectively will provide comprehensive photo coverage of every game from start to finish.
“Telling the NCAA student-athlete story at a championship is one of our main goals, and this partnership will allow us to show the passion and pageantry through photography and technology enhancements,” said Keith Martin, managing director of championships and alliances. “We look forward to working with Getty Images to provide the best coverage of our events and welcome their expertise in managing the licensing of our vast archive.”
“As champions of student-athletics, there is no better association to work with than the NCAA, to capture and elevate the next generation of talent,” said Brandon Lopez, Getty Images’ specialist sports director. “This partnership brings together the NCAA’s full program of championship sporting events, with Getty Images nearly 1 million customers. As industry leaders in sports coverage we are so excited to be able to showcase the Association’s archival imagery from some of college sports’ biggest events, and the big moments yet to come.”
The NCAA also will continue to work with Clarkson Creative for on-site photography services.
