Division II Conference Commissioners Association gives back

Group kicked off fall meeting with visit to Boys and Girls Club

In athletics departments and conference offices nationwide, student-athletes and administrators are continually demonstrating their commitment to community engagement. Last week, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association joined the effort, kicking off its fall meeting in Indianapolis with a visit to a local Boys and Girls Club.

Before their October meeting in Indianapolis, members of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association spent time at a local Boys and Girls Club.

Before they began the business at hand, 20 conference commissioners spent time with about 85 boys and girls at the club, running basketball drills, playing games and helping with homework. The commissioners also distributed Division II gear to the students and announced that the Boys and Girls Club members are invited to attend the Division II women’s basketball championship in Indianapolis for free this spring.

Dave Brunk, commissioner of the Peach Belt Conference and CCA president, said the commissioners volunteered before the fall meeting in order to build on the division’s momentum surrounding community engagement. “We strongly believe in what our membership is doing,” Brunk said. “We wanted to take this opportunity to give back and show how much we value the Division II core value of community engagement.”

Brunk hopes to make community engagement an annual tradition for the CCA.
