DIII Presidents Council supports proposed golf amendment

Presidents Council met Thursday at the 2020 NCAA Convention in preparation for Saturday’s business session

At its meeting Thursday at the 2020 NCAA Convention in Anaheim, California, the Division III Presidents Council echoed the Management Council’s support for a proposed amendment allowing an institution to provide practice expenses for golf during an official vacation period regardless of location. The division’s delegates will vote on 11 proposals and one resolution at Saturday’s business session.

The Presidents Council also heard reports on the division’s budget, the latest conversations on name, image and likeness, and the actions taken by the Management Council on Wednesday.

Joint breakfast with SAAC, Management Council

The Presidents Council met with the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Division III Management Council at its annual joint breakfast. SAAC delivered reports on mental health initiatives, sustainability and conversations around name, image and likeness. The groups then discussed vaping and marijuana use on campus by student-athletes and best practices for preventing sexual assault and domestic abuse.

“The joint meeting of the DIII SAAC, Management Council and Presidents Council is a vital opportunity for all groups to better understand the priorities and needs of our student-athletes,” said Sue Henderson, chair of the Presidents Council and New Jersey City University president. “This year the focus was on sustainability and mental health, and we were able to share our perspectives on these and other issues.”

Presidents and chancellors talk name, image and likeness

Presidents and chancellors across the division gathered to examine potential changes to rules regarding name, image and likeness. NCAA President Mark Emmert provided an update to the group about Association-wide issues.
