Leadership Academy Workshop

The NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop educates and trains athletics administrators on the ins and outs of developing effective, comprehensive leadership curriculum for student-athletes and department staff. Participants in the workshop learn how to structure activities, facilitate discussions and structure effective sessions.

Over two sessions, you will also explore the ideal frame works for a leadership academy, discuss the best practices for implementation, learn evaluation methods, and investigate the best strategies to obtain buy-in from key stakeholders and the campus community.


Participants are required to attend both the November and February sessions, in their entirety, and commit to the completion of post-program assignments and continuing education.

Upcoming workshops

The 2017-18 Leadership Academy Workshop involves two sessions: November 12-14 in Washington, and February 1-3 in Indianapolis. The NCAA will cover travel costs, lodging and meals for participants of the workshop.

Application process

The online application for the next workshop opens in Aug. 14, 2017. The deadline to submit an application is noon Eastern, Sept. 22, 2017.

Applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from a senior-level athletics department member that expresses the intention to support the development and implementation of a student-athlete leadership academy on your campus.
