Intern Perspective

“In my role, I’m responsible for keeping the national office staff informed of news going on within and outside the organization. Having a pulse of what’s going on and what’s to come has allowed me to build great relationships with those outside my department and has enhanced my understanding of all the meaningful work that goes on within the building.”

Gehrig Parker, 2018-19 communications intern

“As the digital communications intern, I oversee some NCAA social media platforms and assist in the conceptualization and creation of graphics used for web and social media content. I also assist in pre- and post-production duties for in-house video projects. I have the opportunity to write for Champion magazine and help update the magazine’s page on ncaa.org.”

Olivia Garrison, 2018-19 communications intern

“As a part of both the office of the president and communications group, I am gaining experience in executive and strategic communications, including policy application and events. By working with two departments, I am able to act as a liaison to ensure that our communications to the public and to members are clear, concise and consistently in line with our mission of preparing student-athletes for life.”

Emily Weisman, 2018-19 communications intern

“I have had the opportunity to support Division I national SAAC, produce content for the website and help craft statements for several Association-related issues. I am continually learning the issues management process and how we communicate the organization’s core message of providing a pathway to opportunity.”

Kelsey Boyd, 2018-19 communications intern
