The NCAA championships and alliances department conducts 90 national championships in 24 sports across all three NCAA divisions. From signature events like the March Madness men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and Men’s College World Series to rowing, rifle, softball and skiing, we put on championships to ensure student-athletes have a high quality, memorable experience.

The internship opportunities, include marketing and broadcast alliances, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and multiple positions within championships and alliances. The postgraduate interns help plan and develop national championships and aid their department in areas such as game management, team selection and bracketing, playing rules, officiating, branding and fan experience, community outreach, corporate partnerships, marketing, ticketing, digital/social and broadcast media services, media coordination and statistics.

Interns who have worked in the department have gone on to oversee championships at the conference level as well as serve in operations, marketing, and event management in athletics departments on campus.

Intern Perspective

“I have had the opportunity to perform numerous tasks in preparing for the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. I am responsible for several ancillary events for the championship as well as assisting the department in preparing for all matters pertaining to March Madness.”

Trevor Fox, 2018-19 championships and alliances intern

“As the marketing intern for championships and alliances, I have the opportunity to work on the tasks related to fan experience, fan events, promotions and more for DI championships. I also get to work in the digital space of our championship websites and e-marketing campaigns. Because there are so many different functions under the marketing umbrella, I have the opportunity to work closely with several members of the internal staff.”

Ellen Stuart, 2018-19 championships and alliances intern

“I have the opportunity to work with a wide range of people and in many different roles to ensure the national championship experience is a rewarding one for student-athletes across the country. Beyond that, the opportunity to work with a dedicated and widely diverse group of people allows me to grow both professionally and personally on a daily basis.”

Zach Christopher, 2018-19 championships and alliances intern

“As one of the championships operations interns, I am assigned numerous tasks related to the overall logistics of all championships across all three divisions. Because the operations department covers so many aspects of a championship, I have the wonderful opportunity to work closely with not only several members of my own department but staff members across all departments at the national office.”

Jessica Jones, 2018-19 championships and alliances intern
