The NCAA championships and alliances department conducts 90 national championships in 24 sports across all three NCAA divisions. From signature events like the March Madness men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and Men’s College World Series to rowing, rifle, softball and skiing, we put on championships to ensure student-athletes have a high quality, memorable experience.
The internship opportunities, include marketing and broadcast alliances, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and multiple positions within championships and alliances. The postgraduate interns help plan and develop national championships and aid their department in areas such as game management, team selection and bracketing, playing rules, officiating, branding and fan experience, community outreach, corporate partnerships, marketing, ticketing, digital/social and broadcast media services, media coordination and statistics.
Interns who have worked in the department have gone on to oversee championships at the conference level as well serve in operations, marketing, and event management in athletics departments on campus.

“To describe a typical day as the men’s basketball intern in championships & alliances is a difficult charge, as no one day is ever the same. One day, I may find myself answering emails and creating presentations for tournament meetings, and the next I may be on a flight to a host city conducting a preliminary round site visit. The ability to prioritize projects, think on your feet, communicate effectively, and adapt to unexpected change is essential to fulfilling the expectations of this position.”
“A day in the life as the Champs 77 intern is one where time management and organization are essential. Some days are busier than others and no day ever looks the same. This intern is responsible for assisting championship administrators with shaping and organizing championships for the majority of men’s and women’s sports across Divisions I, II, III and national collegiate levels. This intern won’t necessarily be able to travel to all championships, but will be provided the opportunity to gain exposure and experience with everything from manuals and selection calls to site visits and event operations at championship sites.”
“As the championships marketing and broadcast alliances intern, I am assigned numerous tasks related to the marketing and promotion of championships across all three divisions. Because the marketing and broadcast alliances unit has so many functions, I have the opportunity to work closely with several members of the internal staff.
