The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference resumed operations in its office this week -- nearly two months after late-spring flooding in downtown Cedar Rapids caused its evacuation.
The conference was forced from its headquarters in Cedar Rapids’ six-story Guaranty Bank & Trust Building after flooding prompted a mandatory evacuation of the city’s downtown area.
Now, cleanup operations have progressed to the point where it is safe for the IIAC to reoccupy its offices. Power recently was restored and areas of the building that suffered flood damage -- including the building’s lobby -- have been cleaned and are now being repaired.
The conference conducted business from the nearby community of Hiawatha during the flooding and cleanup.
